looking at his employment history, I suddenly understand him more as a hindsight.

He was CTO at Jagex and served similarly technical functions in prior positions as well, becoming CEO contradicts what is known of his strengths.

IVP made initial investment since and increased holdings over time.

Over the course of the 2005~2010 share creeping, CEOs and founders have left, ushering in technical experts to be the captain, the helmsman. Following his entry, IVP influences manifested further and monetizing moves began.

All this seems like ad hoc conspiracy theory, but one could interpret the sequence of events and surmise that making MMG CEO was part of the business plan to harvest.

As CTO, he would be a familiar figure who can maintain company morale.

As a technical expert but operations layman, he wouldn't have much credentials or basis to raise opposing opinions during board meetings.

As someone familiar with the systems, he would experience new found powers with which he could reinforce the technical backbone of Runescape, which has never been the game's forte.

I have little proof to corroborate the theory, but it does seem to align with the events that have taken place: bot nuke, bot watch are all technical alterations to the game, are so deep and far reaching that a CTO alone would have trouble effecting because the potential adverse effects would be alarming and unfamiliar to a CEO with less technical expertise.

With this hypothesized cognition, I congratulate MMG's success in leading the company through a time of anticipated turbulence and wish him best of luck in a career in line with his background.

If I made you write this comment, please forgive me. Writing long, intelligent comments is slow and painful.

@ Saiyan II

While your theory is curious, to say the least, there are a few things that really don't add up. You seem to be under the impression that IVP had MMG replace Iddison as CEO, but that's not the case.

IVP only originally had a 35% share in the company from their original investment in Oct. 2005. The Gowers and Tedder together had majority interests in Jagex during that time. Iddison resigned as CEO in January 2009, and MMG became the new CEO and his introduction to the community is dated in the Runescape archives as Feb. 9 2009.

IVP did not gain the 55% controlling interest in Jagex until the Gowers and Tedders sold their shares and stepped down from the Board of Directors in December 2010 when Spectrum and Raine invested in the company (this implying that the Gowers and Tedder sold their shares to the aforementioned investors). As you can clearly see, by the dates, MMG was the CEO before IVP had their controlling interest, and so his placement was not because of anything IVP directed, but what the Gowers and Tedder decided because they controlled the company at the time.

Another quick point: IVP is a venture capital firm, they may have the controlling interest, but they don't make the game decisions -- they're not gaming experts. What this means is they invest in a company, assign some division VP on the board, and then they let the vocational experts do their job (e.g. Jagex game developers) -- they only serve business purposes and probably only meet once or twice a year.

I hope this clears some of this up. None of this is speaking against any individual or group mentioned in this post, but rather just setting the record straight. Mod MMG has served Runescape and Jagex faithfully as long as he has worked at Jagex, and he will be sorely missed.

This "ain't" no business school. Its a game I really used to enjoy. I don't know about you but lately it seems the only reason I still play is because I have hope someone at JaGeX will turn the tables"," and bring back what both you and I used to know as runescape. When levels actually meant something. When level 40's were training on the woman in falador park on the bridge. When the community was genuinely cared for.

How can you argue that?

Pretty easily actually. Jagex is a business. As a business it is not like a dictatorship were one guy can make all the stupid and insane rules he wants and everyone has to agree with him. Mmg might have final say on topics but he does not sit there and make/come up with every idea for the game. There are various managers of all levels that come up with ideas and bring them to him for final approval.

Levels mean something. Spouting that they don't doesn't make you correct. I have yet to see someone with only 50 stats kill Axxor solo.

Community is cared for much more then in the past. In the last 2 years game has gotten more fixes to combat then Pre EoC ever got in 10 years of service. And yes Pre EoC had just as many flaws as EoC has.

Your basically a bitter troll ranting about things you don't understand/comprehend. Be it though ignorance or willful stupidity.

I think the reason you still play because you know if you quit it will mean absolutely jack squat. So you stay ranting on forums to make yourself "heard" I had to put heard in quotes because you really aren't. Your arguments are on par with the whole idiot birther things with President in the US. You think you make a great deal of sense but everyone else not on your band wagon you only make yourself look sillier.

I like that you actually sound educated. I still dont agree with you on me not being heard. Obviously you heard me? I mean, you felt it necessary to rebuttal me with a story.

A letter to the RuneScape community from Mod MMG: If I look back over the past seven years we've come a very long way as a studio and no bigger testament of that is RuneScape. Now in our 14th year together, RuneScape continues to evolve and reinvent itself time and time again.

Running a company always looks easier from the outside, no question about that. The last seven years have been quite a learning experience for all involved -- lots of give-and-take -- and the game is better for it. Best wishes in your future endeavors and ... keep your tool belt handy!

so this guy mark had a job for several years right? he did a good job. he is proud of his work. he is leaving an this is a goodbye post.

i do not understand why anyone would come here with negative things to say.
do they think some of their opinions or comments will take some of his pride away?

its probably hard for you to comprehend having a job where you need to be responsible an reliable for extended periods of time.

every single last negative post on this thread was made by a complete loser with a complete lack of reality. these people are the results of avoiding natural selection for far too many decades.
Please take a few moments to observe the reality around you.
