I really want to do an in-depth analysis of the new design, so I'm gonna reserve quite a few posts. If I reserve too many by accident I'll probably just spread what I'm saying out so it looks like I took them up, bear with me.
Okay, so first impressions are pretty good. as I first load the page, I notice the "top 5" bit has been removed, and the general interface cleaned up a bit (the new picture is pretty cool too)
Once I actually log in, It's great to see it loads almost instantly. The old log was really slow, and to be honest, I thought it would be impossible to improve it this much. Well done for the effort in speeding up the performance.
Unfortunately, that's when I get a bit disappointed.
I can see a lot of work was put into re-arranging the interface (and thank goodness the raptor is gone) but there's still a ton of flaws, and a lot of them were pointed out with the old interface.
As a whole (actually this is something the whole website suffers from, but I thought given the specific redesign it might be addressed) the log does not look good in smaller browser windows. It certainly looks better than it used to, but I'm pretty sure that's because when there
is
space, there's a lot getting unused at the sides. Especially now that the appearance is now potentially modular rectangles, the log should rearrange itself if the whole thing doesn't fit in the current browser window lengthways.
This should not be difficult for an experienced web designer. simply using relative proportions instead of fixed ones would solve this. Browsers are already designed to work in any reasonable size, and will happily resize elements as appropriate if given the right values.
Conveniently, the first page is now split into clean segments, so I'll work my way through them left to right, top to bottom.
