There are some nice changes coming with the HTML5 update, but so far that is all I can say. In theory, the increased draw distance is going to be nice, but in practice and from those images I see, I am noticing the problem I thought would be the case.
The world is too flat! The trees look terrible. They were built for the more angular camera we use in the current engine and they look fantastic there, but in HTML5 you can see that the leaves face one direction only.
The pine trees look really good, but other than that, you need to do another tree graphical update. They are still to small, but now we seem to have access to a better camera you should have full freedom to make them truly spectacular.
I also noticed you have not seemed to have tacked the water issue. In DirectX mode right now water has a really awkward edge. It looks unnatural, and plainly bad, and it seems the problem is visible in these early images.
I really hope you are going to have a huge graphic focus over the next year to take advantage of this HTML5 update, because the gameworld as it is with this new technology is going to feel very out of place.
Given though the polypore dungeon looks really impressive at full view distance!
A few things more to add:
Do not berate fog. In Morytania, it feels extremely in place, and in that image in the video, a lot of the atmosphere seems to have been pealed away. Dark fog also simulates darkness, which I worry is going to be a problem as is common with MMOs, that there is not enough lighting detail!
I know that you mentioned a new lighting system but to be honest, I didn't see much better in the video. In fact, a lot of this HTML5 demonstration seems unnaturally
glowey
and rather unrealistic. So, if this lighting is far more advanced and realistic, give us content that shows it! Makes torches the emitters of light rather than just adding to the global lighting of a place.
