Whether you realized it or not, you actually just said the exact reason why there's a downloadable client now - because running it in a browser requires installing Java. If you can't install Java for whatever reason, you can still use the downloadable client. That won't be the case anymore once the client uses HTML5 instead of Java. So no, there won't be a point in making a downloadable client.

What you're asking them to make is their own fully featured browser that can only visit one website. Why would they waste their time doing that when there are already lots of browsers out there?

__________

Because they said it them selves they are optimizing it for only and i repeat only Chrome or Fire Fox.

They seem to leave out the 'lots of browsers' of the question. Like the beisarty that they released was last I looked was for ONLY GOOGLE CHROME. So unless you have chrome or firefox the game won't be running very well for you. Just like if you can't install java the game won't play well for you.

They will need to create their own browser so you aren't forced to use only 2 to play it. They also missed out on the small group of non pc or mac users. What is is linux computers.
I'm a big entropy fan.

For all of you wondering why you can't log into the Beta, here are some things to think about (and go in this order):

1)
Are you a member?
If no, then you aren't eligible.
If yes, move on to question 2.

2)
Are you a Gold/Silver Premium Club member?
If not, then you aren't guaranteed a spot on beta, so go to question 3.
If so and you can't log in, go to question 4.

3)
Did you apply AND get an email notifying you that you were selected for the Beta?
If not, please understand that not all who applied were selected, so don't assume if you applied that you will have access to the beta right away.
If you did get an email that you were selected, move on to question 4.

4)
Have you downloaded Google Chrome, or some sort of HTML5-supporting browser? And does your computer's hardware/software meet the specified requirements for this HTML5 client?
If you've made it to this question and the answer to it is yes, then maybe there's some other problem that I can't think of.

I hope this helps answer some of the questions that those of you are asking that don't have the energy to read up on news posts or FAQ's, but yet have the energy to post a question that already has been answered. ;)

Cheers.

It only runs on Chrome NOW . As time goes on and more browsers add the support for HTML5 that RuneScape 3 needs, of course it'll run on those browsers too. It's not that Jagex is leaving out lots of browsers, it's the browsers that aren't advanced enough. And if you can't install Java, the game will play just fine for you on the downloadable client, but that isn't an issue with HTML5 because there's nothing to install.
