@Master VI
Well said. The saddest part is, that new players will never know what the 'Spirit of the Game' even meant. I remember my first weeks, slaying goblins galore for my first set of Mithril armor. The first time that I faced the vampire at Draynor Manor, and he nearly killed me. I do miss those days, when a day playing, meant a days achievement.
Now.....only the Veterans remember RuneScape's greatness, before Jagex changed their ethos from Community, to profits.

I like the squeal of fortune update. What I don't like is that it's been given an unnecessary amount of attention. What I also don't like is that you're now able to buy gp and experience with real money, which completely undermines all the hard work that people put into their accounts and makes gp and 99s more and more worthless. The 200 mil grand prize is just over the top now.
But frankly, those are the only reasons I hate this update. I don't give a **** what kind of morals Jagex has, as long as they maintain the ability to make this game fun to play for me. Unfortunately this update was a step in the wrong direction.
Also for those of you people who say this is gambling, it's not, because there's no "win nothing" space. You always get a return on your investment. And since Runescape gold isn't real life currency, it's impossible to equate Runescape gold to real money, thus impossible to determine whether a spin is considered a win or a loss.

Well look at all of these players posting their negative opinions; and here I thought most of you LOVED free gold, items, and experience?
Here is what I find ironic: You all complain about the chance to win free things just by playing the game. (And by shelling out earth money, which is OPTIONAL) Yet, there are less-honorable players out there who rather scam another player out of all of their hard earned gold (This includes gambling hoster's!), deliberately break the rules of RWT, and those who break the rules of 'No Marcoing/Use of Bots'. (You type any of those keywords onto a video hosting site, and you will find evidence of players breaking the rules, and cheating)
Even better is that you all complain about this 'celebration', yet, everyday when you get that free spin(s), you use them!
Ladies and Gentlemen, please relax. This is not any horrible event! The wilderness is still here! Don't worry, I just checked! :P
Just because the developers at Jagex didn't give you any "community event" or a "workshop" doesn't mean you can't celebrate it! Do something! Construct cannons! Have a house party! Spam emotes! Go have a drop party with Party Pete! Hang out with your clan! Do whatever you like to do to celebrate!
This isn't just an event for all of you ladies and gentlemen, this is a huge milestone for the entire staff at Jagex for giving us the world of Runescape! Not only that, but for constantly maintaining it, and adding more and more to make the game better and better!
I've been playing Runescape on-and-off for about 10 years now. I've played since the classic days where one of the perks of being a member was having SOUND! It is a game that started out with a few thousand, and went to millions.
This game has been around for a while, and it shouldn't ever die. Hats off to you Jagex, for giving us an awesome world to play in~
...Just let me know when that Elite Veterans cape is going to be released! ;)

I have logged in for the first time in months to say this:
Sly, there may be many players who use their spins and also complain about them. This is an unfortunate, but the SoF isn't exactly the most non-intrusive update Jagex has come out with. It takes up valuable screen space and drives the initial log-in experience of every player now.
I also ask the discussion thread to consider another element to these updates, with the "Grab the Gold" update being the most recent example. There are many veterans like myself who do not use their spins at all, because they do not log into their accounts to play at all. The trend of veteran player flight continues (the account of a bunny-eared veteran earlier in this thread filled me with great sadness-seriously). When you invest a lot of time in a game it becomes a digital home for you, whether we would chose to admit it or not. It drives online experiences. You form new relationships and memories with individuals in a digital space. Many are sad to see the game they love steadily degrade into a run of the mill mmo money machine.
Having sad this, with poor grammar, I would like to wish Runescape the best of luck. I will certainly not be logging in anymore.

Forager, I understand completely what you mean. But sadly, the past is the past. You remember those memories, cherish them, and never forget. You can't change the past, only the future. My only goal is to make Runescape enjoyable for everyone.
