Right, I'm gonna just state my view now, I hate this, the Squeal of Fortune was a bad idea to begin with and it's not getting much better.
To be fair, there's nothing wrong with micro transaction in games, take LoL (League of Legends) for example, it's all based round micro transaction, or Guild Wars as it had micro transaction yet these don't unbalance the game or give people that use them an unfair advantage over the other users that don't want to use them.
That is the difference between them and the SoF, fair enough not in the short term, but introducing large sums of money like that into the game will eventually unbalance the economy and possibly even cause other players to slowly be unable to pay for certain items, no not rares merely general items e.g Armour, Weapons, Food (Unlikely the last, but hey! You never know!)
The more money introduced into a game the more inflation kicks in, WoW is a prime example, ever expansion the quests and daily quests awarded more gold than the previous games, so whereas as the start rich was hundreds of gold now it hovers around the hundreds of thousands.
I'm not sure if I've gotten off topic, or if this post is even easy to follow, but the point is, just because many games are going down the micro transaction path or that the SoF is making Jagex a fair amount of money, it doesn't mean that it should be done at the expense of the happiness or enjoyability of the game for the players that do not want this service.
YES, I do know that other players ARE buying spins and this is why Jagex have put this into the game and ok, the money rewards are fine, even the 10M as it's so rare.
HOWEVER, why can they not make it like other games micro transaction where the prizes cannot affect other players or the game?
Such as vanity items that already exist in the game, the Ceremonial Dragon armour and Queen's Guard stuff.
Hmm, well this is probably more an argument/rant now rather than an statement so I apologize in advance =/
