Hmm.. whats there to celebrate about?
195 mill bot/unused/throwaway accounts?
Keep kidding yourself* that this is a great achievement.
Put a counter up for those accs which are legit and actively play the game and I am sure that number will pale into insignificance compared to the near 200m on the counter.
Handing out 14d free member trials only encourages more bot accs being made and thrown away after the free trial has expired.

I'm not trying to suppress anything, merely trying to get people to actually think for themselves instead of parroting what others say, or pulling random numbers or statistics out of thin air.
Yes, there are a lot of bots. How many there are, nobody actually knows. So saying things like, "Well, 75% of those 200,000,000 million accounts are bots" is silly. Because that's a specious statement. But other people will read it and repeat it, even though it's not true.
Nobody bangs on Blizzard when they toot their "11 Million people can't be wrong" in their WoW advertisements. And how many of *those* accounts are gold farmers, I wonder?
Regardless, I say hats off to Jagex. And I'm quite looking forward to whatever celebrations they have planned.

The sad thing is, you're constantly parroting yourself and obviously doing so to inspire people to conform to your message (which goes against your supposed 'desire' to make people think for themselves). Why else would you go on with a near copy/paste of your previous statements?
I've seen this in your recent "People, Please Remember..." (15-16-880-63773290) thread where you insisted that you were keeping a cool head and that others should do the same, because other MMOs have it just as bad as this and that it won't do any good to question things, all the while filling people like me with a distinct feeling that you hold yourself higher than others for being this mature grown-up.

All this aside, it really doesn't matter much to me that Jagex is reaching this 200M mark via a constant flow of bots, or that they feel this deserves its own thread and praise (clearly it hasn't worked for these past 88 pages...) If they want to hold some grand celebration for this company's flagship game because it remains circling the drain instead of going over, then they will do so regardless of how we, their costumers, feel.
Go on and celebrate your own mediocrity and decadence, Jagex. -Our- Runescape deserves at least a final hurrah.

Wow, look at all the negativity in this forum.
Well, Jagex crew should have expected this much negative feedback when they placed a "bot counter" on the Home page of RS, and planing to celebrate the fact that they have over 100m bot accounts, where one bot account is made in average every 3 seconds... -_-
Hmm, on the other hand, unlike me, most (at least 80%) of the bot accounts are paying you guys ('cause of membership).. Guess this is why you guys are not banning bots any more...
well, overall, no harm done.. the fact that this game have bots & the fact that you guys ignoring bot activity doesn't bother me.. Guess as long as they pay, they stay.
However, Congrats of 200m (to be) accounts! and roughly 90m (i wish) real (player) accounts! ^_^

True no one knows how many bots there really are, but we can give a estimate combining the average number we see doing whatever activities. Saying that there were at least 50-100 million legit players since release also sounds even more unreasonable. That would mean that at some point jagex would have had to have at least 4 million active real players in at least a few years which we know for a fact isn't true.
Yes, there is without a doubt the 200 million is definitely taking into account multitude of multi's, bots, banned, and throwaways.
