8 year vet here. When I first heard of this news I couldn't believe it, and so I just resubscribed because of this idea. Jagex, I thought you guys had given up on us old players, but this really makes me feel as though you are willing to give us our game back. You have no idea how excited I am.
To all the people against this idea, it baffles me. What is the motivation for doing so? If you read the FAQ it mentions they will have seperate dev teams working on each game, so there's no delays in any productivity. What will happen though is an old playerbase, who has long since stopped supporting Jagex, will return. This helps fund their company, thus both games. So despite your opinions on the 07 version of Runescape, there is literally no logical reason as to why you should be against this. In fact if you value any of the two games it would be beneficial to be supportive.
Enough gibberish negativity, looking forward to playing RS with likeminded people again!
