2007 RS was lots of fun . . . in 2007.
Then the trade restrictions came along and ripped up the game. Jagex has been trying to recover from that massive debacle ever since. Many of the communities that existed in the game up to 2007 were destroyed--and they can never be restored.
The activities I used to do with my RS friends were no longer possible after trade restrictions came in. The company I ran (World 16 Airs) was crippled, and never recovered. Almost everything I did with friends didn't work anymore. So those friendships and communities just drifted apart.
You can't undo the past**** will never be the same as it would have been if the trade restrictions had never been put in place. But at least Jagex eventually saw the light, and restored freedom to RS. The damage of trade restrictions was done, and it will always cast a shadow over RS. But at least the game could start moving forward again.
I doubt that the 2007 servers will be sustainable long term. But if there really are tens or hundreds of thousands of players who want the 2007 servers back, and will keep playing them, more power to 'em!
2007 servers will be a nice piece of nostalgia, but it will not be the same as it was in 2007. Just as with Classic, if it's free I'll probably log in a few times just for fun, to see the visuals of the game as they were. Then I'll go back to playing the real game.
