I actually really like the upcoming HTML5 graphical rework! This is probably my second favorite update Jagex has made recently other than the return of 2007. The HTML5 runs very smoothly compared to the original graphics. The shadows lag a little, but I'm on my other laptop while my good one is being repaired currently.
I will try this when it returns on my awesome laptop and I'm sure that I can run with shadows on just fine. I'm actually very impressed that Jagex is using legitimate shadows now instead of just drawn textures. This is a gorgeous graphical update. I was getting bored of the round shadows anyway.
Java is old and I believe that this new update will solve a lot of FPS problems for a lot of people. The game would be fine on Java still, yes. But as we progress through the years, it's time to pick better sources to run the game on because Java isn't going to cut it for whatever Jagex may be planning in the future.
I understand that there will always be an option to run the game on Java, however. I'm just very excited for the 3D world view and the ability to look at the sky, the realistic shadows, and better FPS.
