The way I see it - if 90% of the bots and gold farmers are originating from one country, and that same country has been caught trying to hack the US government and US infrastructure, then a full out ban of all accounts from that country is justified. My opinion only.

Or just remove the servers from that country.

Wow... Seems like the release of RuneScape 2007 opened a few eyes. Great to see all this action being taken all at once. The no tolerance policy is doing well!

I was reading a lot of the earlier posts and I for one acknowledge that any software / hardware approach is always going to be temporary. However, a minute with a few less bots is a minute's breathing space for legitimate players.
In my opinion, the only true way to get rid of all bots forever is to get rid of the core of the game. Without its unique economy, Runescape would be just another in a score of run of the mill browser games.
I'm sure we also realize that no war can be fought without innocent victims. I keep thinking about how many times someone said Hi or something and I didn't respond within a 3 second timeframe, but got to it a minute or 2 later. How many times have I been reported as a bot myself?
As a returning player, I want to acknowledge that there are a lot of people out there like me who try to find worlds away from people to avoid the immature players RS has long been swamped with. Even with a language ban, there's still (****)showing up in my chat all the time.
Also, I've seen skilling bots in the past that are programmed to respond to certain questions like "what's your skill level?".
To make a long story short: just because they say Hi back doesn't mean they're not a bot and just because they don't doesn't mean they are.

To be honest, I don't think that you can stop botting. It's the same with games. They get cracked too! People will always find a way to do it.

I was talking with a friend about botting, and he had a very interesting *****ion: More awareness among players or more P-Mods. If players take their time to report all bots, there would be no problem. But who takes the time to report a giant group of yew-chopping-bots? No one. Active P-Mods who play the game how it's supposed to be will automatically run into botters. If they report it, the chance of action might be a lot higher.

I play with my private chat filter "on" so I've been PM'd by various RWT website spamming bot accounts in the recent months. This seems to have come to an end though and my ignore list is finally emptying.

Credit where credit's due because I have definitely noticed a lack in the spammers. Thank you Jagex.

Not every player can or possibly should run around every day for hours saying Hi to random players and reporting everybody who doesn't answer back. P-Mods take care of 1 or 2 bots at a time.
Sure, it adds up if everyone does it. That's part of the whole pattern. They never will. We just have to take it upon ourselves that, if we notice a bot, in the course of our own travels, doing what we would normally do anyway, to report them as we see them.
What I think is that however Jagex defines bots, we all see them and define them differently as individuals. Some bots go unreported because players didn't feel it was really a bot and some legit players get reported because a player felt that they were. We all need to be on the same page to be effective.
