I think it's pretty funny really. As a long-time player, I finally stopped playing this game after being banned a few weeks ago. Jagex are targeting the players who just bot a little bit for a little personal gain and yet the goldfarmers are as heavy as ever. I know a ton of other botters who were banned and aren't coming back to the game like me. Seriously, there are so many games that are better than this, but I stuck with RS all these years because I enjoyed it. Getting banned I guess made me see that it's time to move on. I'll miss it.

3XG, although I do understand the difference between those who bot "a little bit for a little personal gain" and the legions of gold farming bots, I haven't the least bit of sympathy for you. When you created your account, you agreed not to use 3rd party software, aka "macros". In doing so, you were legally in breach of contract, and deserved to be banned. Here's what I'd do: install a "whipping post" in the Varrock main square, where casual botters such as the above would receive a public flogging. Rotten tomatoes will of course be provided. That's for the first offense. The second offense would involve things normally only seen in some of the more grotesque (kittens playing with a ball of yarn) websites. No need to go into details. There will be no 3rd offense, since the offender's remains shall have by then been fed to the hogs.

Jagex won't get rid of the bots, i mean common lets think real here, jagex enjoy the cash that the bots are bringing in. i've been playing runescape since back in 2003 and i've just learn not to care anymore, ill only play to socialize with my online friends and thats about it. there will always be botters in runescape, except the fact, jagex just care about the $$$$$$money$$$$$$

Botany Bay would just get rid of not just bots but also cheaters and bug abusers too. Fresh or maxed out ones just got banned as Bot Finder General the prosecutor of this trial must deal with them.

Optimus not implemented yet and Botany Bay hasn't yet been updated. Jagex has still no word of it until they decide.
