I'll give EoC on a try... For I have not tried yet... I'm going to give it a try... I'm not going to force myself to play. So this may be the last membership you get from me.
The videos are good, hope for more tactical info later since this is just a tutorial.
But what I'm going to ask for is something different, but i posted it here because of few comments and refer to EoC.
Now I've tried the EoC a bit more, looking at gear stats and damage and accuracy and so on. I've noticed that not all of gwd armour (armadyl, bandos, subjugation) gives prayer bonus. There are som single equipment* that haven't got +1 prayer bonus, like armadyl helmet, even though it's range and mage counterparts have got it. Why?
Also I see how bad your strength level affects your max hit. Example: any gs has a damage of 1713 lp. So let's say to players were wearing exactly the same equipments, and both had 80 attack and defense. But if player 1 has level 1 strength and player 2 has 99 strength. Now the differense in damage is 1714 and 1812 lp, a "whopping" 98 damage more! You train 98 strength levels and increases your damage with 5,7 % in total. THIS IS MADNESS! The value of strength levels (and strength boosting potions) have gone. Except new items in dung, there's barely no reason to train str anymore, since you won't spot the differense between 70 str and 95 str when combating.
I know the % increased damage from 1 - 99 rises on low tier weapons, but still on rune scimitar (damage 480) you will only deal 20 % more damage or so.
In the old combat system, with the same strength bonus and no other affections, a player with 99 str will hit 6-8 times the damage compared to a lvl 1 str person.
Now the only thing you need is a decent weapon. I haven't tested yet, but i hope prayer % increases are somewhat the same compared to the past.
Listen Jagex, what's the point of training Strength levels now, when 75 - 98 % of the damage are from the weapon? Drink a super str pot and you'll deal about 1 % more damage...
Ranged is quite similar. Would you please balance this a bit more? An easy and simple suggestion:
Let's say a weapon's damage is 300. Your strength level is the percentage increased damage from your weapon. Ranged damage is calculated to a similar system.
Strength level 1: 300 + 1 % of 300 = 303 damage
Strength level 20: 300 + 20 % of 300 = 360 damage
Strength level 70: 300 + 70 % of 300 = 510 damage
Strength level 99: 300 + 99 % of 300 = 597 damage
Strength level 113 (pot): 300 + 113 % of 300 = 639 damage
You'll have to reduce the current weapon damages to avoid overpowered weapons.
Now strength level (and pots) are much more influential, yet they have less to say than before EoC.
I'm not maxed, str lvl 82, but i hope for some good reasons to train str other than prom and primal weapons i dung. I and everyone else used to train str for increased damage. now attack and defense level are way more important.
Not the same game it used to be. I was optimistic and tried it but it just doesn't work for me.
1. Changed my display name.
2. Got 50 defense to continue wearing rune.
3. Changed membership status. (I'm going to keep trying until my membership actually runs out but it's one week into the update and I just find myself playing less and less.)
Jagex, make 2 servers. I don't care if I have to start over from scratch and pay DOUBLE what I do now, make a 2006-2007 server. I voted with my money and hopefully will have the opportunity to do so again when another server is made.
Still don't like the EOC and have been pushed further to the free to play. Just can't seem to justify in my mind that I should pay for a game I can no longer enjoy playing like I used to. I think it is too bad that jagex could not(or would not) leave a few worlds where those of us who enjoyed RS as it was could continue to play. Unless and until they do, I suppose I will just allow my membership time to elaspe then take Leroy824 off to free to play so I don't support financially what jagex has done to us. I have heard there are other roleplaying games out there with greater respect for their customers. So I might just go check some of those out instead.
Not happy with os
I did the tutorial and tried combat and I don't like it at all. Jagex seems to make changes to the game just because they can and want to try new things rather than improve it in a meaningful way. But I have seen this happen over and over again and quit caring long ago so, meh.
Whoa! My dungeoneering won, I received my prize today (3 months member, 25 spins, ornate katana, green skin and 3 days 10% bonus xp), but my video hasn't been published yet on the site.
Roawr.
Thanks for your feedback and I'm sorry to hear you're not enjoying things so much at the moment.
Regarding having EoC mechanics on separate servers, I’m afraid it’s not only technically unworkable, but also really undesirable. Our developers would have to produce two sets of content with every update - one that works with the old, basic non-dynamic combat system, and one that can take advantage of all the new mechanics. That would be a development nightmare and would absolutely cripple the game's development. You'd see next to no new content coming out in any given year and the basic combat worlds would have to forgo the latest awesome bosses or new minigames, on account of not having the underlying mechanics to support them. Within months, you'd see everyone migrating to where things are still alive and going forward - just as we saw with RuneScape 2 and RuneScape Classic.
Also, I did want to to challenge the idea that Jagex has disregarded feedback and ignored players. We've made countless changes based on player feedback, and some of the most major additions & tweaks were directly because of player suggestions. I suspect that "don't do EoC" is really what you're talking about, but it has to be said that this kind of sentiment is not really feedback. The Evolution of Combat was and is absolutely necessary in helping RuneScape to be the best it can be. Problems with the old combat system were abundant and pronounced. It may have been simpler and it may have been familiar, but it was also shallow and deeply broken.
I hope you can see we're still deeply passionate about RuneScape, we firmly believe EoC is the right thing for the game's longevity and we care a great deal about making sure no player is left behind in getting used to the new mechanics. It takes a little amount of initial adjustment, and then you're away having far more fun than you ever thought possible. We really hope you decide to stick around.
