Try holding down the "s" for safe mode, after the first log in. If yours is like mine and several others. We had to, or still have to:
Enter RS name
Enter your pass
Hit login button, or Enter
Then, when it shows "Play *ow" this is where you hold down the "s" key.
The "Run Application" question comes up.
Then again, or continue to, hold down the "s" key and, I answer "run".
When the next screen comes up, it is either giving me the "auto setup" option, or the next "Login" screen.
If I see the "auto setup" option, I hit "x" and that takes me back to the original "Home Screen" with my Login name and pass still there, so I hold down the "s" key again and hit the button "Play Now". It may take a few tries of this to get back to the "Run Application?" screen.
Once, after maybe a few tries, you get to the "Login" screen where you have to type your name again and pass There will probably be "ssssssss" across where your name is, from holding down the "s" key for entering on safe mode. Just backspace it out and enter your name and pass. Then hit the 'login" button and you should be okay.

(edit) Also, forgot to mention. Another little trick I found, is log into the forums first, then choose to play. That worked a couple times when nothing else did.
(edit 11/22/12) Most important, I forgot. If it still fails to load, there is a link Jagex gives, try copy and paste, follow the steps Jagex gives and then, if needed, follow those steps I said above. If none of that, there is the forum you can do a report on to get the technical support needed.
