As an update, when I posted yesterday, the FAQ said nothing about what happens to the membership after. However, checking back today, its been updated and has this on it:

"Will I lose my grandfathered membership rate?
No! Your existing subscription is simply paused when you purchase a Premier Club package and will continue at the same price afterwards."

Also a few other questions that have been around recently that others may be interested in:

Payment wise: "Update: Following player demand, Premier Membership packages can now also be purchased with the PayByCash and paysafecard methods."

"What happens to my existing membership?
Any game time you currently have available on your account is simply carried over to the end of the new membership added.
For example, if you have 3 weeks of membership time remaining when you purchase a package, after the Premier Member package game time expires, your membership renewal will simply be pushed back by the same 3 weeks. Simple! "

This seems ilke a really good deal for players who want to try or renew membership.If i had a credit card this would be the deal for me.The only problem is that some players prefer to pay for one month at a time or buy gamecards. Also not every player has a credit card. About the benefits, anyone would like to pay less for membership and acess to the 2013 betas sounds interesting. Nice idea Jagex, keep up the good work.

I've already bought over a year worth of membership just to get the 'one time only' items (katana, flaming skull, etc.)
If I knew I could get them all now I would not have bought membership all year.

I think the players who already have the items should get extra runecoins instead.
