Jagex, really. If you'd just REMOVE the BUY SPINS garbage, people will be so happy. You'd cut down on playerbase backlash by probably like, 90%. That's what everyone's truly upset about - the buying spins - and you've just vastly increased incentive and payout of buying them.
It's not about "o I got dis cape da hard way other people shouldn't get it easier!" as some have ineloquently put, what it's truly about is, "We WORKED for what we have in the game, not bought it with irl cash. We actually played the game for it. We LIKED how this game was HONEST, not pay-to-win."
You said yourselves you wanted to make the game more immersive. I'd really appreciate an explanation of what warped logic it would take to see this as *contributing* to that. Doodeedoodeedoo, strollin' along an "adventure" game, and all of the sudden out of nowhere some goblin jackass with a wheel and crap shows up with these shenanigans? How can you honestly expect anyone to take you or the game seriously after that.
I also, would be overjoyed if you were to remove the IDIOTIC sound effects and voice of that damn troll goblin. Such a hideous, badly done voice. The "Wewhoo!" is ok and somewhat comical, but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD at least remove that horrible "extra spin for the win!" noise! It makes me shudder, the rare few times I venture to turn the game's sounds and music on, and get thusly prompted to turn them off again.

@Deltaslug:
By putting in such an option, the lie that players 'support' the SoF would become blatantly obvious and couldn't be sold to the people who matter:
The investors.
If Jagex still cared about the game and the players, i. e. on the long-term viability and profitability of their product, the SoF would have never happened.
Even the large number of players quitting over the issue didn't make Jagex even blink or reconsider how wise selling out really was - they started the desperate Mad May marketing scheme.

So, are we gonna see that smug yelps render for a 4th time now? Being such a successful update that 90% of the community obviously enjoys, I'm kind of disappointed you're not giving it more attention. With the success of Mad May, surely you would've gotten more members. I'm astonished by your suave writing as well, clearly you have no money problems and have inspired your dedicated members to buy spins. Can we expect more game content in the future like SOF update v7? I was kind of hoping for Prifddinas this year, but I'll settle for the devaluing of all skills instead. I don't have reason to say much more, as the "positive player feedback" on this thread alone expresses my views much better.
Also, thanks for this insight! I was kind of curious why QBD was delayed...

Second rate,
To me it was never about the buying of spins, or the availability of rare items.
My first annoyance was the fact that you could get mem items as F2P. Normally Jagex would not have done that. They would have allowed it to be a split drop list (like Random Events) where F2P gets one subset of items, P2P gets a full list.
My second was yes I used SoF, but over time, it became annoying. I then learned there was no way to permanently shut it off.
Everything a player does once they log in is up to the choice of the player.
Be a quester, be a mage, be a ranger, be a skiller, be a whatever. This game allows you that freedom. They add a new mini-game/activity, nothing says you have to do it. You do it out of curiosity or not at all.
SoF is the first feature, besides logging in, that you are required to do SOMETHING. Either play it, or hit a red x to temporarily minimize it.
Problem is, that even hitting that X, it is not gone ... it will be back the next time you login and every time after.
I do not want SoF, I want Runescape. Others share that opinion.
Jagex wants both. Others share that opinion.
For some of us, now the question is will Jagex do something to give us the choice to not have to do SoF, or will we have to exercise our choice not to play Runescape?

@ Ian,
It is obvious you do not like SoF.
Why are you still paying them to play?
For good or bad, businesses make choices.
Jagex has made theirs.
The only way Jagex would have pulled SoF was if:
- The Forums litterally blew up in a way that made the Wilderness removal back in 2007 seem tame
- The number of players subscribing cut by at least 20%.
- The number of players who actually stopeed logging in to play exceeded that.
Then and only then, would Jagex have even begin to consider removing it.
Some players have done that.
They commented on the forums.
They stopped giving Jagex money.
Some even quit.
The bad news is that players have complained about it. But by continuing to give them money, which is the main way YOU support the company, you have not exercised your voice in actually getting them to stop SoF.
Jagex has made decisions that always affect the community.
Each time a few people will drop off because of the update, no matter how minor or major.
The game is also 11 years old. It is running into the same problems as WoW and other older MMOs. Odds are you have played everything in Runescape, done everything at least once, and maybe capped a skill or 2. Until they add something new, what else is there for you to do in this game?

I'd much rather settle for a lack of updates, than a constant stream of bad ones taking away from the image of a medieval-esque adventure game.
Aside from this SoF crap now, May WOULD have actually been a good example of that. Few updates, but those that did happen, were actually good game content, steadily furthering the game.
That's what updates need to be like, not this garbage that does nothing but take away from the immersion factor that you said you wanted so much, back at runefest.

Bear with me guys,
This is mainly to solve the 'buy spins' option, rather than get rid of the idea completely:
Why not Jagex, instead of offering spins for REAL MONEY (still don't see how this isn't related to RWT), have an IN-GAME cash deposit for extra spins (i.e., 1M for 10 spins, 5M for 25, etc.)?
Then, at the end of each year, around Christmas, Jagex could host a GIANT drop party with all of the cash made from the SoF that year, or split it across people who have been a member for more than 2 months PRIOR to the Holidays.
I personally think this would actually have some effect to membership sales going up at the beginning of each fiscal year, or 3rd quarter in the U.K.
**Side-note, wasn't Jagex AGAINST gambling with IN-GAME money in the first place with dicing and the horse game? Now they allow you to gamble, using their service, with real money instead of money you made yourself in-game. Seems like Rune$cape instead....... investors...**
