After this update, of many similar, I've felt inspired to share my thoughts on the accumulation of Jagex give-away experience. Now I'm all for bonus experience, and after first few releases I was like, 'Hey bonus experience, this will be good for <insert skill>.' However, when is it too much? It seems 99 announcements happen all the time now and max/complete are a common occurrence. Seems it won't be long til it only takes a few months for a new player to get completionist capes at the rate Jagex is going. So here it goes:
-Random exp lamps (these were the innocent, small start of it, 870 exp to agility? Meh)
-Bonus experience weekends (good lord we've abused these to no end, and they are getting worse)
-Distractions and Diversions (there are far, far too many to list individually now)
-Effigies (although they have drastically lowered the drop rate, thankfully)
-Jack of Trades aura (loyalty shop)
-SoF lamps (buyable)
-SoF pendants (buyable)
-SoF goodie boxes (buyable, instant resources)
-Various bonus experience events (like this one)
I'm sure there are more, this is just an example. Most of these take little to no effort and reward a good hefty chunk of experience. Looking at it overall, is there even any need to train for reals? It just seems that this is becoming a game that requires no work to achieve greatness. Where is the satisfaction in that? What ever happened to earning achievements and people respecting you for that? There was a time in the past that capes meant something.
Just some thoughts. I'm feeling chatty tonight for some reason.
