I have 2 rants!

My 1st rant is about the name of the game "oldschool runescape". This game is no longer old school in anything except graphics.

Don't get me wrong, I love the updates. The game would get stale with no updates. I also don't want OSRS to make the same mistakes as RS3 with EoC, heavy MTX, and trivializing every skill to the point where lvl 99 or even 200m xp isnt even a significant accomplishment anymore.

TLDR; Oldschool RuneScape is no longer oldschool. It's not even remotely close to the 2007 nostalgia we all remember at this point so why is it still called oldschool runescape?

2nd rant is efficiencyscape. OSRS has turned into nothing but how can I get fastest xp, speedrun through quests and content, etc... If OSRS could take one thing from RS3 other than graphics, I would want it to be the focus on lore, and rewarding actually learning and exploring the game world vs just speedrunning through content to be as efficient as possible.

if it was still called 2007scape, then sure i can understand this. but its just old school, which does still work even if it just graphics (which its not its also combat system the main reason for it)

saying its oldschool definitely fits.


your 2nd rant is just how people want to play, the reason why speedrun worlds in osrs, started due to the success of youtube videos on speedrunning osrs.

your 2nd rant is just how people want to play, the reason why speedrun worlds in osrs, started due to the success of youtube videos on speedrunning osrs.

You do realize it was always called oldschool runescape right? That was the official name upon release. Oldschool doesn't apply, it's had engine updates to allow for more advanced components that the old game couldn't handle. Heck they are even working on a C++ client.

Also speedrunning through content is a thing because there's no benefit to slower pace and exploration.

One of the great things about RuneScape is that there are different ways to play it, and nobody is compelled to adopt a specific style. Speedrunning is no different: if you want to take the time and enjoy the lore (like I do, in RS3), then you can certainly do so.

If you're saying there should be MORE lore, then I'd be in favour... but again, other people play the game differently, and would want ways to get through this faster anyway.

what im saying is if the name was 2007scape. then i can understand your rant. because the clue is in the name about it being runescape from 2007. but its not, the game is the old style of runescape hence the name "oldschool runescape" which still fits today. it is clearly based on the game that is from over a decade ago.

you are fixating on my word "still" which was just a mistake. instead of actually looking at the context of what is written...

and its fun which is why there are no speedrun worlds. for people to this in an official way with hiscores

Tenebri, this ain't oldschool anymore. The osrs team is constantly updating, innovating, and adding new content and they've updated and continue to update the game engine to release content that wasn't possible in original oldschool runescape.

When it was originally announced it was only supposed to be a temporary 2007 upload with limited support and limited updates. It was supposed to and expected to never have new content let alone a new skill.

As far as speedrunning, I have no issue with it in general but want some content built for people that do want to enjoy lore and explore. RS3 built an entire skill around it in archeology.
