Would you prefer the old way where upon death you'd drop everything you are wearing and carrying except your three most valuable (by general store prices) items?

That's the only way I'm aware of
I died due to latency in the wild on RS3 a few months ago and still have no idea what death costs or who to speak to or if any of my stuff is or was recoverable. Back with the old mechanics I at least knew my stuff would have been in a pile on the ground a short time before vanishing into nothing or looted by someone else.
I'm sure I can read on the wiki all about Death mechanics at any point but it's a bit odd that it's complex enough to
have
to read into. Dying and having your items in a pile was simple.

Wildy death a few months ago may have been a pk lol.
Outside of wildy pvp now you appear in Death's office and you can buy your stuff back from him for a low cost. It's rare it's more than like 2 or 300k for myself. Used to be a bit more but since the GE tax they drastically lowered death costs.

Players still get expensive death costs if they are using multi way switches, so OP has a point. Death costs are still needing another reduction. Maybe dying multiple times to a single boss could have a chance of the next death being free.
