Death costs are still needing another reduction. .
no they do not
death should come with some kind of penalty.
There's a whole account type dedicated to death with penalty
I'm not experienced enough to really go in-depth, but why is there even a death cost? It's bad enough I get teleported back to a respawn after failing whatever it was I was doing. A cost on-top of that seems like just a gold sink. At least WoW makes it kind of make sense with equipment having durability. Paying gold to some NPC or whatever is what? The heck is the NPC doing with the gold, as if they can actually
do
something with it?
Even if I wasn't HC, I'd still go well out of my way to avoid dying, because why would I want to do that? At 1800 total level on RS3 I only died in that one situation with lag in the wilderness and felt punished enough by that. Most people in this situation would learn a lesson, re-think whatever they were doing, and go back to the activity. Having to pay in-game gold on-top of that just seems like a weird concept. I'm not aware of any situation in RS3 or OSRS where it makes sense to get killed for a benefit (aside from Bounty Hunter or whatever for points, but that's a whole different question as to why it was even implemented like that).
I still prefer the simplicity of the old death system, but if I understand right it had to go because of targeted DDoS. I have no better suggestions than whatever the current system is, but is it impossible to implement DDoS protections that don't let people target other players? Other MMORPGs don't seem to have this issue afaik with
significantly
more active users, and Jagex is just a few dollars of charging close to their prices.
