After a long 20+ years, I'm considering quitting. Why? The game WAS fun.
But after so much BS was introduced, it became taxing, and unrewarding.
"Nobody forces you to..." - which IS A LIE. Elements of the game are hidden behind paywalls, ridiculous to obtain tiered content. And no casual gamer has the damn time to "fail" at shit within the game due to some technicality, arrange their real life schedules around timed in-game events, and all that crap.

The pressure added to the game is unnecessary and borderline mental-abuse.
Overall the game has nothing to contribute to my enjoyment of my life.
It rather does the opposite anymore. It induces frustration of knowing there are "goals" they've set in the game which most of us will NEVER be able to achieve for some reason or another.
I don't chase moving goal lines, I don't try to eat dangling Carrots.

After this year, if it doesn't get easier, they can shove this game up their *cabbage*.

This is what I call 'chasing progress.' It's when you are always trying to catch up and the game keeps pulling out of reach.

At some point the game asks so much that it becomes hopeless. You don't recover from that, people will go to less time consuming activities that throw you right into the action.

if you arent enjoying the game then yeah makes sense to leave. play if you enjoy it.

some days i dont play because i dont want to play. some days i could play all day because im enjoying it.

things have definitely changed in the 20 years. not just the game but yourself your priorities and what you would find enjoying.

Interesting. I came to the opposite conclusion when I quit a few years back (I took a break, we never truly quit, right?) around the time lamps/stars came out. I thought to myself "if they keep making this game easier then why am I wasting my time with it now" so I quit.

Then came back to lamps and star galore! I raced through the levels and caught up to friends that didn't take a break, and... now I'm bored. And my friends that didn't quit have now quit because they feel cheated. It's certainly not a long-term solution to make the game easy, even if they do push the idea of alt accounts (regular, ironman or FSW). To me its cheap.

I hope they don't make necromancy easy. I understand they think we need to be fed 'dopamine hits' and all that, but there's plenty of that elsewhere on RS. Give us something substantial. If it were MY game, I'd cap the daily exp; start at 1.1x for the first hour then knock it down 0.5 each hour after that. That'd get people logging in daily as well as prolong the 'experience' (of completing runescape), and people might not risk their health as much by no-lifing (knowing that its diminishing returns past a certain amount of hours). I dunno.

Seeing how people got 99 agility and runecrafting in 3 / 4 days on Fresh Start Worlds was just as funny as it was depressing (lol). They've been talking about shortening the gap between casual and hardcore players in terms of rewards. I think they should consider exp as a reward.
- and by that I mean consider scaling experience, just as they are with scaling item rewards.

It's not even about XP. Jagex threw in the towel a long time ago. If anyone doubts that the Christmas event was an extended XP feast.

That's the whole Easyscape tag that everyone likes to use.

If there is one word I can use to describe RS3, Easy is not in the same Universe.

More like excruciating.

I always thought the 'easyscape' notion came from lamps/stars, (plus updates to skilling that are almost always overpowered xp/h wise). Btw, I'm all for them offering new ways to train a skill, I understand the game must evolve, I just wish the xp matched old methods a bit closer

I see why they do it though, it gets people engaging with the update (until it becomes old news and they go back to what they were previously doing). Solution, drip feed the rewards.
- example: crux equal (herb farming update) I imagine everyone has got their rewards now, and so have less incentive to go farm herbs. this might lead to a shortage of them? we'll see.
But my point is... it's like they're pumping air into a tyre full of holes, eventually it'll deflate.
Sure, it happens with every update. So? roll out rewards 'over time' to keep up engagement.
- instead of releasing all the rewards at once, for no-lifers to acquire in days, then ditch it.
Keep that 'tyre' inflated as long as possible, by not pumping all your air into it at once, lol.

This approach ^ would also put less 'pressure' (as OP put it) on players, as you'd not feel like you're racing to get all the rewards ASAP and then be left with the 'ok, back to XYZ' feeling.

That's what I meant about easyscape, the XP. Gaining levels is such a small part of it now.

It's also the plan for the newest updates to be the best, because why not? You want people to engage in the content you make. At least I hope so.

I wasn't onboard with that plan at first, but then I look at what I actually do in the game. A lot of the old content is so bad. Just walking across the map is a traumatic experience.

They also have the strange situation of making new content when a ton of players already have maxed level in the skill. It's a problem, and you see a solution like in the Crock Oasis and the new herb farming update where you need to unlock the upgrades.

All of that adds up.

One thing about herbs, they totally killed the market. If I need them I can just plant some. I'm not even close to finished with the reward tree, but that is a lot of herbs!

Edit: a lot of potions are re-used and give increasing amounts of XP. That means the market for actual herbs ain't what it used to be. People are thinking of the old days.

Edit 2: also many potions became tradeable, and even extreme versions have appeared on drops tables, further weakening the herb market.

Edit 3: So I guess this is more than one thing. Herby Werby. Totally hijacked the skill. :p

I dont understand how people expect they will have the same feeling playing a game that they last played 20 years ago. And getting annoyed or able to rant over the fact its not what they remember.

Even if the game had 0 updates in that time it definitely wouldnt be the same feeling playing it. Why because the player has had 20 years of change.

Its like when i play old ps1 games or game on sega. There is nostalgia but that feeling i had when first playing it being a child obviously isnt there now being a adult
