On the release of Archelogy i had already switched to osrs and still play that as the main game of Runescape. But... I vowed i would never touch the skill. And i kept to that promise. Tonight I get 99 archeology. I loggin for 1 minute every night at 8pm EST and collect two daily spins. Yup. I went from 1-99 archelogy using FREE lamps supplied by Jagex every single day. I never spent a penny to speed this process up even more because first, the game is so downhill i could care less. 2. It's already faster than actually training the skill. What happened to this game? I did this to prove to my point that this game is a joke and surprisingly it did not take long to get to 99. I was not very consistent with logging into rs3 because again. I could care less. But i find it funny. I will be getting 99 in a skill i have never even touched in my life. The days of personal achievement in rs3 are gone. Squandered and stomped into the dirt. That's what I like about osrs for the time being. Theres a sense of self worth and accomplishment when completing something. Xmg

It doesn't mean the games "Dead". It does mean it's incredibly easy by your standards. There are things that still envoke a sense of achievement in someone even with the speed up. Congrats on getting 99 Archeology with truly minimal effort.

Just cause you were able to get to 99 without doing any work doesn't diminish the fact that I got there without the bonus xp. Just means you didn't have to work as hard but takes absolutely nothing from me cause it's the journey not the destination.

You're right that there is far too much free XP handed out. I don't particularly like it either. I actually started training Dungeoneering when Archaeology came out, and I only trained it with whatever "free" XP I could get. Within two years I had 200m Dungeoneering XP, and I'm yet to step inside a Dungeon, Elite Dungeon, Sinkhole or Shifting Tomb.

I have also gone from 13m to 200m Strength XP in the same way, and 2m to 200m Slayer XP.


RuneScape isn't dead, but if the boatload of free XP isn't acknowledged and rectified, it will certainly be harder to satisfy players by overloading us with other content.

i dont agree the game is dead thats an extreme i wont use.

do i now play osrs ironman more than rs3? yes.

is it because xp on rs3 is too easy. quite possibly yes.

but the game isnt dead. the game is still good its just far different to what it once was. i still enjoy it i still play it. but people dont care too much about xp now. thats why the xp rates have inflated so happily. to get people to endgame quicker that what rs3 is about now. which is fine.


i also played rs3 fsw. and did 120 slayer and 120 rc... (rc was mainly done in abyss so the xp boost didnt work it was as if it was normal game) are the xp rates wayy too high imo? yeah, but to change them now would be a huge mistake. people enjoy them being this way as people have busy lives. does it bother me in my game play? no i got 200m all many years ago. does it suck i spent a red phat on 200m agility with silverhawks, sure. did most skill way below the xp rates you can get now. but who cares its a game at the end of the day i did it for fun and i did have fun so its a win overall. now more people can get to max / comp and do what is fun to them. that isnt a dead game thats a game that understand what the majority of the community need and want.

Maybe they should back off with the direct XP lamps. This current promotion is a fine example. With 6 spins I got 400k XP. It was a lot more because I converted one for 300 oddments.

The phoenix lamps convert bonus XP into direct XP, and then the lamps are doubled by the promo, with a chance to be tripled.

Sure the XP scales as you level up, but it's too easy to gain levels.

The other side of it, the newest skills require you to participate to unlock everything. It's an advantage to have your level inflated, but you don't actually get the rewards.

The feeling of actual achieving something has indeed been altered by free xp. By a lot.
I remember when the random events came out that the genie would give a lamp containg XP. It was 10 times the level of the skill you used it on. So a max of 990 XP. A normal player could have the genie once in a while.
That was much xp was a lot back then.
The last few years, you can get a few million of xp withing an hour, by just lamps. Wether you buy keys or save them up. When you have plenty of lamps, use them on a skill and before you know, it's much faster level 99 than just training the skill.
As for me, I just delete the lamps and other extra (bonus) xp items I get once in a while. I really want the feeling again from achieving a certain skill level all by myself.
And I recently played OSRS again for a while. It was really more rewarding than using a lamp.

It's been 'dead' since kids returned back to school and necro content dried up.
They'll be back. As for the daily challenges and easy exp via lamps, I'd prefer stars. Bob says:
