Bump count constantly reseting

I've got a thread that I periodically bump up once it hits page 2 (in a semi-moderately moving forum, so I'm only bumping it once every day or 2) and I've noticed that at least 3-4 times since I started bumping it because discussion died down, the bump counter (visible to thread owners) has been reset back to 0 - and this isn't just a display issue, because when I bump it again it goes up to 1 and stays there....for a while lol.
Has anyone else been having this issue? Nope, I have less issues with the bump-button as I barely use it but at least your thread is still being bumped so it functions the way you wanna use it.
They will fix it somewhere in the future.

It's been an issue that's gone on for years, at least 5. I have a thread that I used to bump quite a lot, and then noticed that whenever I bumped to 3000, it would reset back to 2999 (see below image).
Even if you bump it now, it'll show 3000 on the counter, until you refresh the page, or go back to the main subforum, then back into the thread. I've just always assumed that 2999 may have been the bump counter max, because I have definitely bumped the thread more than 3000 times.

3000 bumps and I would have seriously doubted my own contributions.
