Basically it would be nice to see an option to toggle so that the text on forums moves as you resize your browser so you only have to scroll up and down, instead of left and right too because you made the browser smaller horizantally, it's a bit hard to explain but I've had other websites where it does resize text when you resize browser window so you can read it all.

Maybe it could be made a toggle so you can toggle on the forums (maybe log in and have it as an option on your profile) if you want it to work like this, or have it not re size, and you could toggle at any time, then everyone is happy :)

great idea from Team Misha - "My laptop screen isn't as wide as my old monitor and the ability to not have to scroll to hide people's avatars just so I can see the actual text would be great when I split screen the browser."
200m Dunge, Rc, Mage and invention accomplished, + 120 Constitution/Slayer/Range/Summoning/Woodcutting/Mining/Defence/Strength and 110m fishing, got comp/MQC and 200m Fishing/Woodcutting/Mining as well as 120 herb/Farming/Cooking most 120s just Agility, Theiving, Hunter and Prayer left

The forums are based on a fixed-width content pane of 1000px.
A lot of the graphics would not work too well based on a resizable width, such as the fancy 'Forums' text at the top of the window.

Plus it'd break other people's workflow. :p

Edit:
I retract my complaint about resizing because of fancy graphics - good job on the site guys, great use of :before and :after. Makes it really resize-friendly, much kudos.

^ You just mentioned the inflexibility of the forum sofware and layout.

It is normal for anyone nowadays to expect a website to be scalable across different screen sizes and screen resolutions. RSOF ancient software not permitting this is an exception in the world wide web not the rule.

the forum software may be ancient, but it can support a mobile responsive theme. since mobile responsiveness is css adjustments based on screensize, all it takes is writing the css and adding it to the header template.

which honestly is possible down to resize down to around 450px width on div#main for the backgrounds to sit properly, where at that size, you just adjust the subforums, the thread listing and the postbits, along with the associated links on the pages to fit properly.
Can I turn in a paper without citing all sources?

I personally have very little programming knowledge to the extent that the above few forumers have, so excuse me for not posting something about how to easily make the forums scalable. :P

I'll just leave it at this:

I do believe that the forum's coding could be updated to allow for this (I hope so anyway), right now it might not be possible, but it would sure be great if it was made possible one day one way or another. 200m Dunge, Rc, Mage and invention accomplished, + 120 Constitution/Slayer/Range/Summoning/Woodcutting/Mining/Defence/Strength and 110m fishing, got comp/MQC and 200m Fishing/Woodcutting/Mining as well as 120 herb/Farming/Cooking most 120s just Agility, Theiving, Hunter and Prayer left

Ah responsive design - where my heart truly is. There is nothing really stopping us doing this on our site other than time. I am really wishing we made the forums responsive when I updated them. I have been kicking myself ever since.

I have built a responsive mockup for them - it is not actually very difficult it is just a ton of work that myself and the team would need to put in. But it is definately I think the most important update to the website as a whole that we should make moving forwards. Mod Ernizr (my former lead) did a great job on our splash site:

I understand what you mean, it would be time well spent though if this was an update able to be made, would benefit a lot of people, I can understand a lot of staff being busy with other things too, but this is one update I would like to see the time go in to one day :D

2015's been a good year for updates so far (My favourite is legacy interface in Eoc)

I would like to emphasize, Jagex as a company needs to take care of this Runescape board. By keeping the software relevant with the current technology that other modern websites have taken advantage of.

Runescape players deserve to have a scalable, flexible and modern board that takes advantage of modern browsers. It is time for Jagex to spend money for RSOF software overhaul.

Thanks for responding, as that is highly appreciated. But you aren't the decision maker that can decide, we need commitment from the decision maker Jmods - for them to see where we are coming from.
