Locked Threads: Quote ID

Unfortunately , Jagex has not embedded the Quote ID within the HTML source of a post. Therefore there are limited ways to get the QUOTE ID from locked threads.

Gidedin, on page 19 of this thread, has explained a work around which allows users to obtain the Quote ID of a non-JMod post even if a thread has been locked. Click here to go to post.

At the moment, there is still no way to obtain the Quote ID of a JMod posts from a locked thread (unless a JMod gives it to you).

I found another work around that works great to. I'll explain it below.

For this example. I am going to be using Mod Infinity's post on page 98 on the " Forum Community Helper's " thread. Keep in mind that
this thread is locked
and you can't get the quote id from jmod posts.

So how do we quote a jmod post from a thread that is locked?

First we need to locate the post we want to quote. Next we need to find the url number of that specific post we want to quote. The formula for that is

(page number x 10) - 10 + post number - 1 = url number.

So to find the url number for Mod Infinity's post we do the following formula.

(98 X 10) - 10 + 9 - 1 = url number.
. When we do the math that gives us a final answer of 978. So that specific post's number is 978. It is also that post's url number.

Now that we have the url number for that post we now want to take the main url for the forums.
http://services.runescape.com/m=forum/c=4MVZNmWT5KE/sl=0/forums.ws?

Next we need to take the QFC for the thread and add it onto the url after the ? to get.

If you copy the QFC make sure you turn - into , otherwise it won't work.

Once we have done that we now need to add the url number we got from the formula on to the end of the thread's url.

Our url number was 978. But before we stick it onto the end we have to separate the QFC number and the url number with a comma (,).

The final result looks like this.

http://services.runescape.com/m=forum/c=4MVZNmWT5KE/sl=0/forums.ws?14,15,380,65732676,978

But we are not done there. In order for that url to link to that specific post we now need to add #978 to the very end of that url to get.

http://services.runescape.com/m=forum/c=4MVZNmWT5KE/sl=0/forums.ws?14,15,380,65732676,978#978

That url is a direct link to Mod Infinity's post on page 98 on the Forum Community Helper's thread.

We are going to use this url when quoting that post.

Now for the quoting.

To quote simply type in

[black][quote][white][b]Player's name[/b] [link url=specific post url]said[/link]:

Input Text here

[/white][/quote][/black]

The reason we put black around the quote is because if you don't you get this.

Original message details are unavailable.

By putting black around the quote you effectively hide that unwanted text.

Original message details are unavailable.

Although it can easily be found by highlighting it.

To make the rest of the message appear we need to wrap [white] or any other color besides black around the main message. This is what allows the main message to appear in the quote.

After we type in the first [white] we now need to type in the [b]player's name[/b] followed by [link url=specific post url]said[/link] followed by a colon (:). Now we can line break by pressing enter a couple of times.

We now copy and paste in the message from the quoted thread.

After we have done that we finish it off by typing in [/white][/quote][/black]

Now that we have our url for the specific post and know how to plug it in we type it in like this.

[black][quote][white][b]Mod Infinity[/b] [link url=http://services.runescape.com/m=forum/c=4MVZNmWT5KE/sl=0/forums.ws?14,15,380,65732676,978#978]said[/link]:

Some great discussions going on here. I'll do my best to answer some of the questions which have been posted, but wanted to help put some stuff into perspective.

[/white][/quote][/black]

Our final result is.

Original message details are unavailable.

And that is one way to quote a jmod post on a locked thread.
