Unfortunately, ID (and fansite-item databases) died out a decade or so ago before the RSWiki and other social medias now supplement the discussions and checks in a more updated and interactive manner. Nowadays, despite being a dead board (Forum altogether), the only topic to discuss within-in such an inflated economy are prices of items; and with that -- price manipulation.
Disregarding the intent, imho, there's really no true structure to combat price manipulation or the threads that derive from it on the RSOF altogether, nor will there ever be
.

Seriously???
'
In '
RuneScape
' after every kill, during any skill you have '
many ways to check your prizes of items you did gain
'
'
right-click examine
' and you can check your prizes.
Go to The Grand Exchange and you are able to check prizes of any tradable item.
Go to '
Jagex's Official Website
' to 'Community' in the address bar and select 'Grand Exchange'
Grand Exchange
and you have the '
StockExchange of RuneScape
' at your disposal and you can check prizes in multiple ways, accurate and up to date over a small period of time or a six months period of time.
There is no other reason to have price check threads in 'Item Discussion' other than to play the market attempting to trigger/persuade/scam/lure others into trading on the market making them lose money.
It's hard to understand your strangely structured post -- yet I don't believe I'm against your stance
? I don't support either side, really.. just stating that there's not a whole lot that can be done from here.

The price of an item is (arguably) the most important attribute for discussion--the uses of items can be found in the wiki. If you shut down price check threads, the item discussion forum will become a ghost town.
I really would not consider price check threads to even be discussion. The majority of the posts are just numbers posted or "profiled" posts. If that's the only "discussion" in the items discussion forum... then that forum is hardly needed.

Many items are not traded on the grand exchange, or are traded very thinly, such that the GE guide prices are not particularly helpful.
The G.E. is not perfect. There should be in-game warnings that items are in low volume and thus their price may be inaccurate. Most people don't use the forums and won't check some obscure item discussion thread to figure out what it's worth. But low volume items are even more easily manipulated on the forums - so even if they do, it might not be helpful.

You aren't required to trust that any
particular
user has posted correct prices, unlike a trust trade. The threads merely help people form reasonable expectations.
I don't get this. You aren't required to go through with a trust trade either. That doesn't mean it can be posted on the forums.
I might request this thread to be locked in the near future.
I had seen another post discussing the sad state of affairs of the item discussions forum and when I made this thread I was operating on that and old information - I was recalling when there was a jagex sticky was up for reporting price manipulation, and fmods weren't allowed to intervene on price manipulation. That no longer seems to be the case. Forum rules can shift and when they do, it's often done very quietly.
