Oh man, a thread about the good old days. My bread and butter. I came to the forums back at the start of the golden age in 2008. I had what I would now figure to be a suggestion about some improvement I wanted to make and by what you might call random chance, bad luck, or providence, I chose to post in Rants. My thread was instantly swarmed with trolls and I was baffled at the negative response to my suggestions to improve the game. I was also hooked on the Wild West feel of it all. Even twelve years later I can count on one hand the times I’ve posted outside of Rants (this being one), not counting the raids into Jagex Lite

I loved the crazy feel of it all. Forum mods passed out bans (I was on the receiving end of many), but for the most part couldn’t do much to regulate the Spam Bin. I have fond memories of the player-run chat lounge, the three or four different factions that had a great time bickering about the fate of Rants, and the countless silly threads grading people on how famous they were in the forum or asking them trivia questions.

To be honest I miss it all. The sense of community, the fun, the chaos of it all. I’ve tried to quit the forums more times than I can count but something always brings me back. I have one thread left in Rants that I love dearly but every few months when I check on it I can’t help but hope “today’s the day Rants has been busy enough to send it to Chewie.” I always hope that I’ll log on and be back in the days where a thread spending five minutes on the front page was a badge of honour and if you got forum banned for more than a day you had to ask a friend to bump your threads until you got back.

I always hope, but deep down I know the landscape’s changed. Not just Rants, not just the forums, not even Runescape, but the whole internet. I’d love to relive the glory days, but I know I’m just an old Ranter past his prime, dreaming of the glory days.

But all the same, thanks for the memories. Cheers to nostalgia.

What are you two talking about? I don't know what you mean by "list of mentors".

Was a secret that got out by mistake. List of F-Mods who helped train New F-Mods IE Mentor.

Ohhh the good old days. I started off as the forums started. I was a real pain on the forums and often ranted. Some how some where someone at Jagex liked me enough to invite me on May 4th 2005. It was a Wednesday as I recall. I'd just got in from a meeting and logged in to see an Inbox and said what have I done now. Read it and 10-15 mins later was still reading it. I was in total shock seeing the invite. Around 10.30pm I hit accept. I was up till 2-3am reading all the rules and guidelines. I was hooked then.

Went to bed little later and could not sleep. Got up 7am and logged in to make sure I was not dreaming. Yep was true Jagex invited me.

Logged into game and the VERY first message I got was from Paul Gower. He congratulated me on becoming a F-Mod and that really sank in and made my day. I was over the moon with joy seeing that me very first Gold Comment and it was from Paul himself.

Anyway as you all know I'm still here 15+ years later and still a mad poster. Just the rules are much better. I remember muting people for saying Microsoft and Google. It was bad in the early days and now todays rules you can post links to mast friendly places. :P

I miss the good old days and Social Media wasn't a thing back then and the Forums were full of Gold Posts. Today with Social Media taking over the World the Forums are suffering. They are not finished they are just in a state of hybernation. They just need somethimg to kick start them again. It can be done too. Jagex just need to spend some time and cash reinventing the Forums for all to enjoy again.

I'm running out of space so I'll stop typing. :P

You left out the best part of the story... the part about HOW they got access to the secret FMod forums. ^_^
I'm better than you, but that doesn't mean you're not great! :)
