For context on my examples, Hero Pass and the pumpkin parties are both updates they had to patch and run damage control on after much player feedback on why it was poorly done. They and the holiday TH situation are all recent, consecutive issues that have harmed players' trust in their decision making leading up to what's looking like more of the same. I haven't seen or heard any comment from them on the TH thing and the post just sat there at the top of the site until just recently, almost like a taunt.

Death costs was around a year ago and what stood out about it was that the reasoning they gave to justify it didn't check out. They never said more on it on site but quietly acknowledged making a mistake elsewhere while still pushing on. I don't want removing the forums to go like that too.

The feedback surveys seemed promising at first and they seem to be helping on some QoL updates but they ring hollow when we keep getting incidents like this. What happened to polls? Actually communicating with players before making big changes they keep messing up? Even if the forum's coding is why it's not getting updates, why is that suddenly ground for removing it now? The timing is terrible.

I agree that it doesn't look like they considered remaking the forums on code they can maintain and then porting the current forums there/archiving it. Announcing that they're replacing these forums with a different on site equivalent would be a way different announcement, especially if they involved players in the designing of the new system to account for how they use it and all the QoL issues people have had with the current forums. That way no one would actually be going anywhere and would presumably be a better experience that can bring new players in.

The impression I'm getting is that they see different platforms as interchangeable and don't understand why they can't just replace the forums with stuff like twitter. They don't understand what they're doing.

It seems to me that Jagex have committed their normal crime of doing something based on false information. The devs have started using the other social media sites, quite a few players also use them and Jagex have assumed that players ONLY want X/Reddit/Discord because that's what the devs and their favoured players want to use.

Given that the forums don't record your presence if you're not logged in, it appears that Jagex have seen exactly what they want to see and are now telling us that the forums aren't used and so they are going to close them down... because we ALL use the social media sites, don't we?

My take on this is that it's the wrong move. Even their own figures show that most players don't use X/Reddit/Discord, we're telling them that we don't want to be made to use them, and the silent majority who won't even know until they need help of some kind help (I know players who don't even read the updates).

I have said this on a few threads now but let us all remember the mess they made of the wildy because they were SURE that most players wanted it to be dangerous and they went through hoops trying to keep it dangerous while making it more popular. How many resources were wasted, how much ingame money was generated, how many times did players take advantage of poorly planned changes, how many times did players like me try to tell Jagex not to listen to a minority of very vocal players? Too many to count looking back! And when they gave us the opt out of PvP, how welcome was that? If only they had listened to the majority of players in the first instance, they could have saved such a lot of grief.

Closing the forums is the same, badly planned and not worth the hassle it will cause for a lot of players.

But Jagex aren't going to change their mind because they are only going to listen to a favoured few.

I'm very sad that Jagex never appear to learn from the history of failed changes.

You will need to post this thread to reddit or discord to get Jmod attention they probably wont see it here and maybe then they will extend posting to march but forums will still be removed.

^ Don't be silly. It will be a small button saying ''download now'' and a big button saying ''Buy your Treasure Hunter keys here''
The evolution of RuneScape:

One day, there won't even be a "download now" button. All that exists will be a "Buy your Treasure Hunter keys here" button.

Somehow Jagex have done it. Somehow Jagex have infiltrated your life and are getting you to buy keys for a game you don't even play.

No. It's obviously because they are gonna fully rely on third-party clients rather than their own clients, duh.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
