Tell me about your journey in RSOF.

I’ve come across so many fantastic forum users over the years. Yet, I don’t really know what your journey has been like. I just know the one fantastic individual with their ever so brilliant posts.

What prompted me to make this thread was seeing the user Joel. I suddenly had a memory that Joel used to be named something else (I hope I’m getting the right person lol :P ) and before he was an Fmod, he created a thread asking to remove ‘champion’ from ‘community champion’ which Jagex referred to player moderators at that time. The thread became HUGE. It took some time before Jagex finally listened but during that time, Joel and his camp had never given up - always trying to be active. It was one of the highlights of the forum community.

So tell me about you - what are some of your favourite moments, sad moments, or accomplishments being a forum user? What was your journey like that lead you here?

My forum journey has been a bit of a wild ride. The forums have been an integral part of my passion for RuneScape, as it was where I always went to learn more about the game and Jagex, to interact with the community and to discuss various issues and ideas to make the game better.

At one point, I was a Jagex fanboy with too much time on my hands so I'd spend hours just debating and arguing on the forums. I'm glad I got over that. However, what that also helped do for me is that it -- like the game itself -- helped me hone my communication abilities and my typing speed. Moreover, without the RSOF, I wouldn't have gotten into forums as a whole and I would have never ended up has the lead support specialist and community manager for what was once one of the largest free forum hosts on the internet (and that also provided several major opportunities in my career). Additionally, if not for one of my old, long-running fan posts about MMG, I would not have had the opportunity to chat with him one-on-one which, along with a discussion with Andrew Gower about my desire to jump into the industry, is a highlight of my RS 'career'. If those two encounters never happened, I don't know where I'd be because they were both the primary inspiration behind my decision to dive into entrepreneurship.

Nowadays, I don't spend as much time here but I do still drop by. I miss the days when Jagex was more focused on the forums and the games than social media and Discord, neither of which I particularly want to use that much. Nonetheless, I still enjoy stopping by here to talk with my fellow players, discussing things about the game, theorizing about lore, talking about nostalgia and so forth! ~

personally ive used the forums for ages just here and there though not like some of the others that are always on here thats just recently for me but i always enjoy a good chat with a bunch of regulars as it were 3^9 being one of them ofc its also nice getting all the different insight on peoples opinions on things even if we dont see them the same way its still nice to bounce ideas or opinions off other peoples ideas and it gets heated sometimes but thats just how it is

ive been really enjoying the forums over the last few months that ive been a new "regular"

I remember the forums being a place that was easy to get help from.

Now it's something I avoid because of this captcha.

I get a new captcha ever 10 minutes.
Scatch that, it's now down to every 2 minutes


Reddit doesn't have it. The game doesn't have it. Only this website has it.

Does it work as intended? No

Will they fix it? No.

I have never encountered one of these on the RSOF. Not once. There was a time or two where I had one when I logged into my account on the site but that's just once in a while. ~

How did I miss this thread...... I should have gone to specsavers.....

Anyway my journey has been amazing. Been here since early forum time and used to Rant a lot and I mean a lot. I loved the Rants section.

After becoming a F-Mod on 4th May 2005 I changed my ways a little. I had too really. It was for the better too. I enjoyed the forums a lot more then I used too. The forums at the time also got 1/2 million posts per week yes the F-Mods in the days got the stats weekly to show us all how busy the forums were.

Was such a work out at times with locking and hiding posts to keep the forums a safe place back then. So many people posting some very nasty sites.

I've seen so many changes to the forums some thats been great and some that made me pull out my hair lol. Especially when Rants section just had 10 or so sticky threads you could post on and not make any new threads. Thankfully that didn't last long at all as it didn't work well. Not many people will remember that but it stuck in the back of my mind all these years.

I also remember the day the forums glitched. Anyone who logged into the forums on that day were made into Jagex Accounts. Except the F-Mods we wernt that lucky. 100's of people were banned on the forums. 100's of threads locked or moved all over the forums. It was such a mess the F-Mods and Jagex staff were cleaning up many days later. The F-Mods at the time wouldn't post incase they were banned by the spammers lol. Was a fun day but a distructive day. Jagex banned a few people for totally going wild on the forums.

I'm happy to be part of a nice team. We all get along and enjoy the forums. We have such a laugh at times.

I also enjoy having the highest Post Count of anyone using the Forums. I plan keeping that too for a long long time. So don't even try lol. :P

I hope 1 day the forums get a make over and the Community come back to them and use both the forums and Social Media. Would love to see them more active.
