The forums are officially dead and are not like what they used to be anymore sadly. Not many people post here. Everyone is either going to reddit, or are not posting at all. Removing the RuneScape forums would decrease Jagex's operational costs, and make more room for revenue. Currently Jagex is maintaining these forums that are barely used with a large operational cost. I do agree that this is a good place for feedback, but many people are putting that feedback on reddit. On top of that, beta or mobile beta feedback can easily be done/(implemented into) via the in game "bug report/feedback". Another serious problems of this forum is that it is starting to take on the shape of a battle ground. Already it can be seen that the forums have taken a turn towards a murky community where people are now arguing over views of something or EVEN A MEANING OF A WORD in forums that are meant for in game content. Also, a majority of forumers are P2P players that sometimes use harsh/burn commentary against F2P players, and are not even willing to listen to them even if it is for the P2P players best interest.

The major issue is that FMods and LMods are doing as much as they can, but unfortunately it does not seem enough. After all the FMods and LMods are humans and have a life and con not be here 24/7 on top of every post that gets posted.

Many people are posting things in wrong forum categories and their threads get moved to another category.

I recently came back to the forums after six months. I remember six months ago that there was a massive verbal argument in the forum that caused a JMod to come and give a notice on that forum category. I really hope that JMods and other types of Mods can understand the seriousness of my reasons for why the forums need to be removed.

The forums here are starting to have a harsh environment, after coming back I have not seen any of the sweet nice forumers making new comments or threads anymore.

Instead I have seen hostility and harshness that I have not seen 6 months ago. A change like this in such a short time span is not a good sign. JAGEX PLEASE START PLANING FOR A 300Million Account Event.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Quick find code: 185-186-627-65997434

I agree.

OSRS posters are mixing up their posts with RS3 subforums.
OSRS really needs its own forums, yet that'll be more work.
The RSOF are heavily outdated (I mean, even the RS Chronicle Forums were better than this) and to do something to bring it up to date would take even more time and work than what the webdev team has.
Even with the recent pruning and merging of subforums, we still have subforums that are "dead".

The bigger use of forums is the few instances where discussions of an idea require more than the typical "1 day" a thread on Reddit takes precedence. A reddit thread can be stickied for a while. But still.
Then again, community interest in an idea/discussion can taper off pretty quick until the next time it becomes relevant again ... which can be weeks or months afterwards (ya know ... because of how long it takes to to software dev)

Even then, Jagex barely uses its own forums outside of newsposts (ie: the game update).

I disagree that they should remove the forums. There is still a lot to be learned here and instead of removing them Jagex should look into revitalizing them.

That said, the forums are in a sad shape and I don't have a clue how to go about making them better. I would like Jagex to be more involved in this case, but they can't even make the LMods into JMods so I doubt we're gonna see improvements any time soon.

How do you know it would reduce their operational costs?
By how much?

Firstly, every post, thread, or reply that is put into the forum is placed on a storage medium. Without it going to a storage medium, there is no way that the text you are reading right now would be visible. Secondly relating to the storage medium, if you keep an undeleted (FMods or PMods never took action against a thread/never deleted it, if it never violated forum rules) in your bookmarks or its QFC written somewhere, and look back at it after it goes past the 50 page mark, the thread will still be there, however not editable. This basically means that new data is being stored and old data is not being deleted most of the time.

Basically the need for more storage medium is one of the problems here.
