User Friendly Profile

Profile management has been something suggested for
ages
and from what I understand seeing Mods Lyon and Allstar posting on the subject in the past, the forums are something they'd love to work on but it's just not the priority at the moment.
Given that, I think it would be cool to even take it one step further and allow users to manually profile a thread, either by clicking a button under any post (such as where the reply buttons are), or a check box near the reply/quick reply box. The latter would allow you to post without necessarily profiling the thread, while the former would allow you to profile a thread without needing to post at all. Furthermore, perhaps an option within the profile to un-profile the thread if you'd like.
Then there's the idea of subscribing to a topic and being notified somehow when there are replies, but that's another subject all together so we won't derail your thread with that.
