Allow forum moderators the opportunity to appoint an assistant forum mod that operate in a similar but limited fashion and would report to the Forum Mod who appointed them.

As regular players/forum users, we can already assist FMods by reporting things we see to the
Forum Help
sticky. That said, I'm not sure where your new role would come into play here? Personally, I think it would be more beneficial to review any inactive FMods and look into recruiting more active forumers to be full FMods
if
it is deemed more moderation is needed.

Food scientists have finally managed to remove the mint flavor from gum! The ex-spearmint was a success!
Given that we're volunteers that have the ability to take action on situations here when we see them I don't think adding direct reports/assistants into that equation is the right thing to do or even necessary
As Spearmint already pointed out, Forum Help is available for everyone to report issues to us which we then go through and deal with accordingly. Adding another layer of essentially 'FMod Assistants' is adding no benefit to the forums or the community in my opinion and would just exist for the sake of existing.
We definitely need more moderators. There is a lot of rulebreaking that goes unpunished. I'm thinking they could recruit some volunteers from the social media channels like Reddit and Twitter.

So you want to recruit people who probably stopped using the forums because they felt they were overmoderated, to moderate those same (now much slower) forums?
Yeah, no problems there.

Sorry, but this whole idea of Moderator Assistants just seems super complicated, and a waste of time on Jagex' part, as well as FMods, especially when there's much more important things that need doing on these forums.
Spearmint pretty much nailed it with his response.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.
Edit: I just checked the profiles of 5 random fmods and 4 can be considered inactive. Help wanted.
Nah.
Theres nothing saying they cant be inactive anyways thus theres 0 reason why they should be stripped of their powers when they arent breaking any rules.
Thats just unfair.
IIRC, the only mod that gets removed for being inactive is pmod.
