I disliked Hot Topics because they ended up being just J-Mod threads, and at the end were never updated. I personally liked "Thread of the Week" a lot better, because J-Mods had to be semi-active in the section, and they would pick a thread and sticky it plus it it on the TOTW Hall of Fame.

Thread of the Week really encouraged people to post interesting threads, because they wanted to get thread of the week. :P Hot Topics had a lot less potential, because there was only a few spots and they didn't really define what it was/how to run it.

If Hot Topics could be used again I wouldn't mind, but I'd but rather see Thread of the Week brought back! :P

With you, indeed.

A great idea. How would you feel about them having them listed in-game, also, to bring better forum coverage, there? (could be either on the lobby, somewhere, or in one of the interface tabs, (like you have for quests) which there are multiple, now).

True, though the game-bar/window did have a built in link to the forums, for a few Years, so linking to forums is possible.. (there is also the clan Vex, and numerous links from the promotional pop-ups, along with the subscription buttons which appear on any action attempted on F2P which has a P2P aspect/add-on; and there's long been links to the knowledgebase from the wildyditch warning), I am not sure how it would be presented, but I'm pretty sure it's possible.

I have heard that linking to the wiki proved more difficult, as it's not something easily translated for the alternative langauge versions of RS, due to all the links being different. (though the German and French versions both had the forum link as part of the built-in bar, even if it was only briefly).

Yeah but that's different. I also feel if they were advertised in game it would just lure in players to troll on the thread for one reason or another.

Hmm, good point.. Though an increase in traffic will always give an increase in badly behaved people, along with the well behaved ones.

Would it not be worth the need for additional moderating, to gain a higher population in the forums?

I do understand the need for the Hot Topics, anyway, as a way of highlighting the threads for people who are already avid forum users, but who may not have found these threads, otherwise.. and to help those just starting out-relatively new, to see what a good thread should aim to be like.

I do think it would be a missed opportunity, though, if it wasn't done in a way that encouraged more forum users. (sorry if I seem to be going on about that, I have somone who goes on and on and on about it, on clan forums, so it rubs off. :P )

To be honest if that would bring in more forum users that would be a miracle. Usually we see a large jump in activity when there are server issues or news, but it dwindles out after long, with very few to no users actually staying with the forums after the fact.

Ja, I'd heard that was the case.. :/

I suppose it just has to be hoped that the more frequent the jumps are.. and the more ways they are encouraged, the more those few staying to have a look arround will add up.. though I imagine it would be a very slow process..

I certainly wouldn't wish the forums to change all that much, to become more 'poularist' as I like the way they are, at the moment, with a lot of discussion, but also some light-heartedness.

Therefore they could only be attracting the same kinds of stayers as now, really, but encreasing the populations general awareness about them, would encrease the number who would participate actually knowing about their existance.

Appologies for going outside the direct premise of the thread.
