There is nothing illegal about discussing torrent related technology and apps.
Some online games are known to provide updates via torrents. Steam was built on BitTorrent with the original founder, Bram Cohen.
- Blizzard, Eve Online and others use BitTorrent for their updates.
- The UK government used torrents to distribute tax and spending information.
- Florida State University uses torrent to share scientific data.
- University of Massachusetts uses torrents to provide access to their data.
- Facebook uses BitTorrent to distribute updates to Facebook servers.
- Twitter uses BitTorrent to distribute updates to Twitter servers.
- The Internet Archive uses Bittorrent to provide downloads.
- Windows 10 uses Bittorrent technology for updates.
Not all of the above can be accessed via a standard torrent client, but lots can, and legally.
Sure you can breach copywritten content if you choose, but the most interesting things that goes on with torrents is the legal stuff, plain old piracy is uninteresting by comparison imo. BitTorrent is great technology.
