I once went outside, in the winter, without a jacket despite promising my mommy I would wear a jacket.

One question. Why was the sentence left incomplete? Having it left like that gives the image that the intention behind "would" was what you were talking about in the beginning of it (which was going outside without a jacket).
Can someone answer me this? I'm still not quite clear on whether I or wey made a mistake.
