Hm... idk, I think it may be slightly dangerous to say it here... but I personally didn't like HxH that much. Of course, it's not bad at all, in fact, it's pretty good, but I didn't think it was nearly as good as others such as FMA/B, Code Geass or AoT (naturally I'm not including here some anime which I enjoy for nostalgic reasons, like Digimon or Kenshin, lol). Maybe it's because I didn't actually finish watching it (I stopped somewhere on Greed Island arc - I was getting too busy irl, I do intend to finish it though), but I never understood why so many people adore it.

Regardless, it's nice to see it will continue, from what I've heard, the Dark Continent arc seems interesting :) .

It's regarded so highly because of how well-crafted the story is.

It has (arguably) the most in depth and thought out power system ever created. The characters are all unique in such a way that you won't forget them. Many common tropes you would normally see are subverted in a completely different manner like you wouldn't expect. The potential is so great with the setup for Dark Continent and foreshadowing. Many different themes are addressed throughout each arc so things are never the same. The list goes on.

Basically it comes down to the simple fact that Togashi is a genius.
There's nothing stopping you and me from making all these memories.

I just finished watching LotGH and I've gotta say it was pretty damn cool for something so old, lots of underlying existentialism which I've just been learning about in Uni but they also discussed some pretty notorious Philosophers anyway. Great cast, Yang Wengli is a cool dude.

I think you're misplacing highly regarded with mainstream... I mean whatever you enjoy you're free to like the most but Madhouse did an amazing job with the HxH reboot, it had some very powerful moments (some that you didn't get to see because you dropped it), some very powerful animation and just a great cast/characters. All things considered I do believe that HxH beats the likes of FMA:B, certainly Code Geass and the way that the SnK manga is going right now... I don't see it really making it past its second season this year.

Erased is crazy good

Has me wishing the week would end earlier, so I can stop being destroyed by these cliffhangers.

Erased would be hype if it were original but it's interesting how they centred the idea around crime, thriller and mystery. Too early to judge but it seems very good so far.

Since NO ONE watches Gintama... the recent episodes have been nuts. Had consecutive 10/10 episodes. Just back to back epic and significant fights including major characters!

Episode 49 of Gintama (2015) at 19:25 - 19:50... the music reminds me of inception and it made the scene like 10x more hype.

Not quite. My choice of words may have been poor, but I did mean I did not understand why so many people regard HxH so highly, not that it was mainstream (regardless of my personal enjoyment). I don't even talk to enough people about anime to know if something is really mainstream or not :p .

I agree the animation can be pretty powerful, and that the cast/characters are good. But for me it mostly felt like the story somehow "lacked a point" (I'm not sure if this is the best wording for it, I was going to say "lacked something" instead, but that would be too vague) which was not enough compensated by the characters/animation; and that kind of reduced the overall power of the anime despite its powerful moments. For now, only the YorkNew arc seemed to do a good job in that aspect. Anyway, I guess I just need to finish watching it already ;) .

Gintama did sound interesting, but too many episodes made me avoid starting it :( maybe when holidays start again lol.

The point of Hunter x Hunter before you dropped it was for Gon to find his father, that was made pretty apparent from the start idk how you can think that it lacked a point lol... maybe you didn't think that the point was important enough?

Is English not your first language?

Not that it isn't important enough by itself (well looking for your father sounds a reasonably powerful objective per se ), but how it was built didn't seem... convincing enough? Or maybe that sometimes it didn't appear enough? Not sure if that makes sense.

Indeed, English is not my first language, although the reason everything I'm saying is vague is more because it is not precise itself, so I wouldn't be able to explain it in any language, really. (I've spoken English for long enough anyway, but I guess not using it on my everyday life -since I moved from Canada - did affect my English skills :p ).
