New Rokka theory:
When he blew up the door the barrier activated at the same time. What if everything was correct about how he remembered it? Then the only thing that could have activated it would have been the armor suits.
The mountain saint had the key, she understands the runes on the suits, and when asked if the brave killer was alive she asked to see the assassin's mark. If her own were real she could have checked that. The doors once opened can't be closed but a door swinging opening calmly after a bomb clearly strikes me as fake, and the brave killer even said a fiend shouldn't have been able to even get as far as the one Adlet saw in the pillars. Chamot destroying it with a big hole in the ground could have lead her to believe nothing could have survived her power and not checked for a corpse which an illusion wouldn't have.
Alternatively the mountain st could have just asked to see the mark on the assassin to demonstrate to him the features it serves. As he was unaware of this fact an easy way to check if he is the fake would be to fake the death of a brave and ask him to expose his mark. His fake mark couldn't account for a mechanic he had no knowledge of and faced with the certainty he was about to give himself away he would almost certainly blow his own cover prior to anyone else showing their marks were still intact.
Actually faking the death of a brave could flush out the killer, the problem would be that the bluff would only work once and I now have two suspects, the mountain st and the assassin.
Another issue could be a reversal in which the faked death gets explained as not showing up on anyone because that person was the fake and allowing the actual fake to then have the opportunity to kill at least one more brave and have one in a state of fake death (probably from a poison needle) and easy to finish off risking not one but two saints.
