Thanks for the suggestions on the previous thread btw, gonna start watching them soon. Been watching Trinity Seven, which is an alright anime I guess. Nothing special, but has some funny moments.

Would anyone give me a brief explanation on the Gintama series? A year or 2 ago I watched 5 first episodes on the first Gintama but I don't remember too much from it but it never really interested me because I think I never really understood what it was all about

Would be nice if anyone could explain some bit of every Gintama series for those that have seen it!! :)

You will either hate or love Gintama, but at first I didn't like it and grew to love it.

It's basically like South Park for anime where it mocks other anime for their ridiculousness but at the same time it does a better job at bonding friendships than any other anime. Not only do each character in Gintama get consistent air time but they're all unique and hilarious characters.

Most of the series is episodic and filler-like and the main story line barely progresses, that's the main reason for my initial hatred for the show, but honestly the show is just too funny to miss out on. Warning, you may not get some of the jokes presented in the anime as it may be from various of anime that you haven't seen or it being related to Japanese culture (doesn't happen often).

Edit: I really like the way they express the 'power' of their friendship as well, it's very passive at times but you just know they are really close, I don't know why I feel so different about the way they go about doing things compared to One Piece, Naruto, Bleach and Fairy Tail.
