Body weight is just a number. It doesn't mean anything. It doesn't tell you your beauty or selfworth. Love yourself.
Someone obese is worth less than someone that's healthy/in shape, tons of research done on how looks and your actions help you out in life. Beyond just pure looks, being in shape leads to other mental benefits that sitting around getting fat doesn't give you.
Once you get into the health problems zone then body positivity is damaging and frankly shouldn't be encouraged whats so ever.
Of course there are cases where the person has no choice, but for those who choose to hurt themselves their friends/family shouldn't encourage it.
Being fat is as bad as alcoholism, you choose to hurt yourself because of an addiction.
I was fat once, too much RS, my life was shit, I turned it around with exercise and a healthier diets. Ended up with tons of IRL friends and a much better life quality, there is absolutely nothing good about being fat.

sure, being fat has a lot of negatives and connotations to it, there is situations like you said that arent voluntary sure
but when you look at fat people, myself for example, i got that way because of depression and loss causing me to eat more and do less, fat shaming insults and saying your killing yourself would just make things worse would it not? your making a depressed person more depressed, which in turn just makes the issue worse, so comments like dodos helps to build self esteem so the person can then work on losing weight
fat in olden days was useful, it showed wealth, power, status, it was helpful in combat because it protected the organs, now though that kind of thing is useless
and though id agree that on average body matching, a fit person has more value, but also on average, a person who only cares about there body has less value then someone who has a desk job or a career in science, not saying you cant have both but still
not saying your wrong but i think its a little more complicated then your post leads to believe(not flame)
and overall i think lost hmmm..... 65kg or so, and while im still whats considered over weight, im physically fitter then your average 'skinny' person in fitness all around and most definitely for stamina and strength
Extremes of anything in human life can generally be damaging. I also never said that being super fit is what you want either, I just warned against being in a health problem zone, whether that is over lifting, being over weight, or being super skinny.
Humans are built with the need to survive, by telling someone that they're killing themselves by how they are acting should naturally push them to stop what they're doing if they want to live longer. If they don't want to stop then that's their choice, but they shouldn't be encouraged. I wouldn't go so far as to belittle them, but I wouldn't tell them to love what they have become.
I understand that body positivity is a good thing, and those who are a little chubby or a little underweight may feel bad about not being super fit/skinny, which i totally agree that they should feel confident in themselves. It's when you see those 300+ lbs people saying "i love myself" and expect people to support their unhealthy lifestyle that it becomes a problem.
Also yes fat is/was useful in the battle field, it allowed you to have more energy etc, but no way in hell did anyone want to be obese, in no way is being obese an advantage on the battle field. You would only want to be in around the 12% body fat range. Beyond that you get too slow to move, and even if you consider getting cut, it's better to have stronger muscle instead of flabby fat. I'd take being able to dodge the blade easier than your ability to "protect organs". Being fat was only highly viewed back in the days because it showed that you had readily available food sources and that you could over eat and indulge. It had no real practical use.
you talk about agility and being able to dodge a blade, i have iaido experience, quite a lot of it, and i can say that if i were to nukitsuke(draw slash) and a person were to start trying to avoid after my first movement, regardless of how agile they are theyd get hit, its more to do with there perception of my movements then there actual ability to dodge the strike, but then again any amount of fat wouldnt make much difference in this situation, you cut through both just as easily....
and in regards to fat being useless, up to 18% still leaves you fit enough to move and gives enough to reduce your blunt force damage from fists while still maintaining the advantages in regards to body temperature as well as energy, but going on about that and the variations of fat percentage vs muscle size height and build type is to much body science to go into
and though this isnt really something that tends to be relevant in western cultures so much, the lower your fat percentage goes the easier your movements are to read, even while trying to avoid 'telegraphing' the muscles are much more visible and easier to trace for movement, they are also easier to target for weak points for people who are experienced but i suppose mental awareness, adaptability and movement reading have very little to do with weather a physique is directly better or not
not saying you were so much wrong in the first post i replied to though, was just saying that being crule and telling people they are going to die doesnt work as well people think it does, support and politeness to build self esteem so they are more willing to do it themselves is much better
and yes im much against people being of the idea that they are 300lbs+ and love there body and think they have no reason to change, so yes, i completely agree with you that this is very wrong
