I was in a Lyft today (Uber, whatever), and there was a small segment on the radio that dealt with a woman, who was a grandmom of 2 (because she made that a point!), and she goes, "I am 72 and I cannot retire, because I don't have enough savings, and there's no cost of living adjustment, and I just...." Poor lady. ;c
Yeah it's quite sad tbh. My old neighbour back in Australia was in her 70s (or 80s?) and was still working at the local supermarket to pay her bills and rent because the pension wasn't enough to cover things. :(

Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.

I guess it's the same all over, huh?

In my current gig, folks have been there for, let's say, 20-30 years, doing the same, menial task. Never moving up. Never making a name for themselves. And they are content. And, then, when it is time to retire, they gloat how they cannot -wait- to go back to work.

A lady I work with on a daily basis, she had said to me, "Froud, when I retire, I plan to work!" And I asked her, why, what did she mean! She just spent 30 years here! She just wanted to keep active. And in my head, I am thinking, then just stay here...?

Yeah. When I moved to the UK, I managed to get a job within the first month of being here without even trying, but that's because the previous employee I replaced left for a better place. I spent 2 years at that job constantly hearing my co-worker complaining about how he's worked for over 20 years and is still in the same position, getting crap pay, and how that previous worker was only working for 1 year out of uni before moving to find another, better job that paid more than he got.

After 2 years, that place drove me insane due to an abusive workplace, and I too, left for a better place that also paid more than my old co-worker. Safe to say he was very annoyed at it lol, but it's his own fault for preferring job security over taking a leap of faith and exploring/going into the unknown to better yourself.

Same goes for other things. Quite a lot of people (in Australia) that I knew or spoke to, all use to say "I was born here, I'll die here" and never get a passport or want to travel, and seem to be content with just staying in the same place all their life. I could never do that D:
