HLF COMPETITION - STATUS:

Hey football fans,

The group phase of the most prestigious annual football tournament will begin in September. This thread will have two purposes: 1) to discuss all games and participating clubs 2) to participate in the HLF competition!

With 15 people participating in the HLF competition for the Euros in France, the prediction game turned out to be more popular and a lot more entertaining than I had anticipated. Therefore,
I have decided to host an adapted version of it for the Champions League!
– If you would like to participate, make sure to read how it works (see Contents below).

So what team are you supporting? Or have you been following more than one team? Do you think that there’s a team who will stand out and impress us with 18/18 in the group phase? Or disappoint us with 0/18? – Feel free to discuss anything related to the Champions League in this tread.

HLF COMPETITION [KNOCK-OUT PHASE]



Predict the outcome of each match to gain points as follows:

0 points for a completely incorrect prediction
1 point for correctly predicting who will win/lose (or draw)
3 points for correctly predicting the score (this is including that 1 point above)


Some rules (on top of the ones we have already)

-No more colour-coding
-Only predictions in numbers will be considered (e.g. 2-1, not "Team x will win/lose" )
-This system applies until the end of the Champions League
-Everyone will start with 0 points again after the winter break, so make sure to invite more players to participate in this!
(-For anyone who participated in the HLF competition for the Euros last summer, this is exactly the same system that we used back then)

EXAMPLES


Predictions for the quarter finals (Tuesday):

Dortmund - Barcelona: 1-2
Juventus - Manchester City: 0-0


I would gain 6 points if both scorelines turn out to be correct. I would gain 2 points if none of the scorelines are correct, but Barcelona still won (0-2) and the Juventus game still ended in a draw (1-1). I would gain 0 points if the scorelines are incorrect and if it turns out that, for example, Dortmund and Juventus won.

By posting a prediction for any game in this way, you automatically participate in this HLF competition.
Before participating, make sure that you have read and understood all rules in the post below.

HLF COMPETITION RULES


SCHEDULE

-The schedule (post 2) serves as template. Copy-paste it directly and add a colour [group phase only]
-Do not add the Wednesday games to your predictions for the Tuesday games
-On Tuesdays, only copy-paste and make predictions for the Tuesday games
-On Wednesdays, only copy-paste and make predictions for the Wednesday games
-Do not post predictions for the Wednesday games before or during the Tuesday games
-Do not post predictions for the Wednesday games until I have posted the updated hiscores for Tuesday

PREDICTIONS

-To make it easier for me to process your predictions, do not add scores [group phase only]
-Only one prediction per person per game
-You must group all predictions for that day together in 1 post
-Predictions must be posted before the start of each game
-Predictions must not be edited during or after the game
-Predictions must be your own; do not post on someone else’s behalf
-Copy-paste the template (schedule) and use the same colour for every game [group phase only]
-Related to the above, do not switch game order and/or club order ; stick to the template [group phase only]
-Only predictions in numbers will be considered (e.g. 2-1, not "Team x will win/lose" ) [knock-out phase only]

Please respect all rules so that it’s lot more convenient for me to update the hiscores.



REWARDS


Due to forum and in-game rules that prohibit gambling, there will be no prizes to win. This competition is just for fun.

HLF COMPETITION [GROUP STAGE]


Two different systems will apply:
-Group phase: max. 1 point to be won per game (96 pts from 96 games)
-Knock-out phase: max. 3 points to be won per game (87 pts from 29 games)

The system for the knock-out phase is exactly the same as the one used during Euro 2016. That system will be re-explained in this section during the winter break.
For the group phase, you do not predict scores
, but only winner/draw/loser by using colour codes, as exemplified below:

-
Basel
– Celtic [-> Basel = winner]
-Basel – Celtic [-> draw = no winner]
-Basel –
Celtic
[-> Celtic = winner]

You will get a point for each game for which you correctly predict who will win/lose/draw, regardless of the final score. By posting a prediction for any game in this way, you automatically participate in this HLF competition.

Before participating, make sure that you have read and understood all rules in the post below.
