Runescape isn't a solution, it's a way to deal with your social anxiety, I was a bit awkward and didn't talk much until I quit lifting and just got out there and did some social activities, unless you got some social impairment like autism or act like a general douchebag you shouldn't have too much trouble socializing

In RS, people can't judge you for your lapsing mid-sentence because of significant speech delays.

In RS, people can't judge you for immediately forgetting what they said because you have little auditory processing skills.

In RS, people can't judge you if they have to write everything down and having to explain things literally.

I can hardly hear my own thoughts, let alone someone else's, in places like bars due to the loud volume, making them a huge no-go for social gatherings.

I can't stay in a place for too long if there are loud children because it stresses me out.

RS may not be a solution, but it sure is one hell of a crutch.

I don't really have a lengthy story, if some people respond I might give it a go. But I know a lot of us here are/were awkward IRL and it would be nice to hear some stories of how Runescape has helped ya deal with/overcome that =)

Was open before I played RuneScape, got bullied for 1-2 years for playing it, went hardcore introvert cringekid, changed school, got over it and now I have friends that don't care that I play.

I don't know and I don't really care about them, one of them went to the same high school as me and acted all nice and friendly, lol.

to be honest I've never had social issues IRL or any serious kind of social anxiety IRL but I constantly do whilst playing runescape.

IRL you can build personal bonds with people instantly. It could be through a touch on the shoulder, a wink, a laugh, a joke. Could be anything. Its easy to see who someone genuinely is. IRL is more to do with body language. First impressions mean a lot after all.

In Runescape however you only see what people let you see. You can't see peoples quirks, their smiles, can't hear the tone of their voice, etc. Although you can read most of that through text its not nearly as personable so I find it a lot harder to approach people online.

I understand most people aren't like that, people tend to hide behind their keyboards and say whatever they want without fear. Whereas for me, I always wear my heart on my sleeve, I'm honest and kind and treat people how I would in any situation. The problem comes in because people don't see your smile, see your body language, etc whilst you're scaping so what I say comes off as completely different.. Im someone who communicates through body language just as much as I would by speaking so that has made it a lot harder for me to make friends online than I do IRL mainly because I feel like im not portraying who I actually am.

That issue also messes me up with bossing/DG, etc as well. I hate teaming anything because im being forced into having to work together with people who don't know me. Theres no personal bond, even one that is only built off a quick RL convo. Without that warm feeling its pretty hard to feel comfortable.
