I don't really have a lengthy story, if some people respond I might give it a go. But I know a lot of us here are/were awkward IRL and it would be nice to hear some stories of how Runescape has helped ya deal with/overcome that =)

rs helped my get through bad family issues, and instead of doing something incredibly stupid, i chose to move to england because i have friends here, woot woot rs

Yea, I'm socially awkward and get social anxiety too, but it doesn't control my life. I can still give presentations and meet people in those social settings... I just don't like it, and it's pretty stressful. I'm very introverted irl, but extroverted online. RS is avoiding the problem for sure... don't let that be your only social encounter.

For me, I just keep a handful of good friends that I know are actually friends and not people who don't care about my well-being. I wouldn't want more than that. ~ my two cents :D

My social awkwardness IRL is just a part of my personality, and I think some people - at least my friends - have come to like it about me. It's not an aggressive personality. More like passive and can be taken as friendly or shy.

I'm definitely different IRL than I am online though.. but not in a cat-fish way, just am. :p

I've met a lot of people from rs, the socially awkward will be awkward and the confident are confident, RS won't change anything unless you end up hanging otu a lot and going out to do something, which then the real reason isn't RS...

You don't lose anxiety/awkwardness from being with people you know/understand, you lose it by continuously meeting new people and putting yourself out there, which you won't learn that in a game where you can turn your private off every time you encounter someone or ignore them

chat outside of rs
went to the cricket with a guy i met on rs last yr when i was on holiday

good day drove to his place caught train into city for a t20 cricket game then went across to the horse races and had a punt then went back to his place and watched some epl and crashed at his place
