This question will probably hit everyone a little... differently, but this forum is the HOME of many of Runescape's Unique Players. We aren't just casually posting here and there. We might be ignoring quests, comp reqs, or certain unpleasant minigames or boss battles, but we all do have one thing in common.

We got all our skills to 99.

How did you motivate yourself? What was hard? What was the most fun?

What's different now than when you started?

How did you motivate yourself?

Who inspires you?

I'll answer these myself in a bit, but I wanted to see what the High Level Community has to say.

My motivation for skilling basically always was to hangle myself from quest to quest (which sadly isn't actually a thing anymore - requirements for the QPC haven't risen for many years) - admittingly at a time at which some skills were really awful to do. At some point it basically was finishing things, that really were close to finishing and at the time prif was released it went really quick from those 6 or 7 skills I had had at 99 to maxing. Fairly sure it'll eventually be the same with 120s - new awesome skilling content - prif certainly was a game changer for that aspect, but not the sole one - I hated thieving before that and I just happened to be 90something when it was out - and then suddenly it ended up as my first 200m skill - and actual 120 extensions obviously will help.

But it's not like I'd ever would have looked up to somebody else.

Seeing what's different - actually most things - my route for skilling today would be extremely different - sure some things never change, but yeah... most do. 15 years are a long time to be fair...

Fun playing is the only motivator I needed. Agility was "hard", although I didn't mind any of the grinds all that much, and this is taken into mind that I got 99 runecraft before Runespan. The most fun probably was slayer, although slow.

Pretty much everything. I maxed in 2011, and I don't remember much from how the game was, but all the QoL improvements and skill changes since then have made the game easier (thank Guthix) and makes me want to have played more for the enjoyment of the game than getting every skill above 13m exp.

Weird question. I play for fun, that's my motivator, as I wrote previously.

It was actually one skill that encouraged me to max. I was pretty close to being maxed when skill arrived. Had about five skills to go. I just enjoyed grinding with friends. I rarely did a skill alone. Usually had a friend that did it with me. Anyway, what made me finally decide to max was the release of Dungeoneering. The skill was a lot more fun being maxed because you could truly complete the dungeons. I now am maxing out my alt to 200mil dung. But not bothering to max his skills this time. Turns out it really does not matter anymore. This is actually the only account I maxed. Too many maxed accounts anymore. It was cooler back in 2011.

circa 2004 I hit moment where I realized SOE was only verifying authenticity of playstations, and then they turned blind eye to Capcom serving its own games -and- licensing development codes out to cheat device makers. Thats not a problem except that they also had leaderboards, so they were ranking players who cheated.

I came to runescape because I was impressed with its strident anti-cheating policies.

Today... I am still not the game police, nor priest, nor free therapy, but... its pretty painful to hear from almost-recruits to sweatlord clans: harrowing testimony about narrowly resisting the bullying into using macros; and that macro users make the ranks with for now seeming impunity. I shrug a little, and maybe its a honey pot, and those people get taken care of eventually.

I am newly annoyed the cabal of gatekeepers have been able to petition for better drop rates ON TOP of the ranking for their enrage.

Thats some bullshit.

I do get confused by it sometimes because the healthy sense of competition is what protects this game from cheaters. Like... do NOT tell me some weak suck bullshit like "I only use alt1 to do clues." Fuck that. Do not use 3rd party cheat shit. Yeah yeah pokimane and amaranth use overlays etc, but theyre entertainers, not competitors. ANY tournament for games EVER would bounce you to curb for overlays, and EVERYONE knows it. Sorry, but clues solved has a ranking.

So am I proud to be here all this time later? yeah. I love runescape. Many of its players can bite me, but... so many more, the real silent majority, theyre great. That being said... right now runescape has the best opinion leader vbloggers its ever had. I love makeiru, ryan, luca, wazzy, decolour, etc. In general. Much better days than when people listened to __, __, and __, et al.
I have quit rsof because moderator found comments about darklight bonus damage on demons "off topic" for wildy flash mobs full of demons

did combat in 2008 plus crafting and runecrafting in2009 played cw for a number of years

EOC killed CW so I decided to max

2014 maxed.

After having ground out rcing at 30k~ xp/hr the 2014 rates were a pleasure to grind.

I enjoyed the rcing more though as not only was there more sense of accomplishment but constantly trying to do quicker runs/ race others was part of the fun.

Not a fan of DG forced myself the last xp weekend/month/week or w/e they call it to get 120, glad I had 3m+ tokens to throw at it.

Getting the highest lvel motivates me to do it now. In the past it would be to unlock some beneficial content say overloads for instance.

Joined cause the game was so ancient knew wasnt getting unplugged anytime soon.

Started out maxing dungeoneering the skill was fun.
Started filling out the combat skills.

Easier methods to level kept emerging like the elf city.
Only found the buyable skills hard, like herblore and construction. Got around to maxing them all after stockpiling.

I didn't follow the forums or game updates. One day I ate lobsters and was like woah why is it healing 900 hp or whatever, then I realized they overhauled the whole game.

I kinda found the game more fun as a newbie everyone talked and said random stuff. As it went higher everyone just afks and tabs out at skill spots.

Having clanmates and friends set goals and reach em were fun. So many updates they had to share. Sadly so many forever stopped playing after they got that 120 fishing or woodcutting cape. I kinda followed in that footstep after I got 120 dungeoneering which I sought for a long time.

How did you motivate yourself? What was hard? What was the most fun? I grinded all my stats with music to get to 99, this was back when the xp rates were much slower then they are today.

What's different now than when you started? Everything is easier now, and nothing takes time anymore...

How did you motivate yourself? Sexy cape, Having dedication helped alot!
