He did use bows up to Level 50, but then he had a REVELATION - something about an elf in Lletya telling him how rangers just hid behind mushrooms made him realise how wimpy and girly that option was.

He does very occasionally need a bow for certain quest tasks, but generally he avoids them. It does make things more difficult, yes, particularly for certain slayer tasks!

He has also been known to use a cannon in the distant past (because obviously that's machinery, and therefore macho and not girly at all), and even throwing axes at the Circus. Otherwise it's melee and mage all the way!

More seriously.... mainly the XP has been from freebies - penguin points, monthly troll invasion, rewards for doing slayer tasks in Slayer Tower, and suchlike. Yes, I have also used lamps from Treasure Hunter for Ranging XP, but no, I have never bought keys just to get free XP. It's taken a long, long time to get the XP to where it is now... Wow... that’s some dedication lol!
