Another tip for farming bones, similar to forcing story voyages by leaving certain captains out on voyages and not claiming the rewards, you can do the same to get more chance of biologist/missionary.

Even better is if you send out joint voyages. I sent out two joint voyages and never claim the rewards so that blocks 4 of the bad adventurers. I only sent out one crew member for each of those, so I have plenty of crew left for whatever voyages I get in the remaining two slots.

That's definitely an option that works, but I recommended stockpiling up Azure > Stainless Steel > Terracotta for Ancient Bones deals from the Trader.

I'm personally in favor of never keeping ships idle (unless forcing story voyages for Comp/Trim reqs).
