most likely, but at the same time no one knows how combat brawlers really work. Some theories point out that its based on the monsters hp + time spent in combat w/ it to counteract people spam eating. @RSNAlan

If this still works, I'd assume you just equip them when they are near out of food before you kill them, unless that does not work at all.
