and the notion that the UK precludes armed raids is poorly formed.

If it was I who gave you that impression, then you misread me. I was pointing out that the leap from minor response to major response is quantum rather than giant. I wouldn't use the situation in NI as your general example, with the IRA (plus varients) and the increased use of weaponry (look it up) in NI, police are far more cautious than in the rest of the UK. NI and the rest are very different places, even in London police are far less cautious and Jagex is in idilic Cambridge.

There's armed raids and there's armed raids, we don't have what the US has, for simple reasons.

yep. Gerry Adams murdered Ronan Kerr. I know.

I came back to append, cause I assume other HLF members would know, but many do not: the magic number for youtube is 10,000 subscribers. When you have that many subscribers you get a paycheck from google that pays WAY MORE than anyone below top management at Jagex makes. So like... J mod Poerkie who used to be a player, now who is the only guy to adjust GE values... he does all that at like 40 ish a year, and the other player like Poerkie started a pk channel, went viral, and makes 70 ish a year. I feel like everyone knows about pewdiepie and his 70m right? There are many steps before that.

Thats the root of the phenomenon where wealthier vbloggers are basically able to bribe J mods, and thats why we saw the OSRS mods arrested. I think, perhaps, some HLF types might assume its driven by lust for some lolita or bear cub. Its money. Its a disparity of profit.

My voice hasn't diminished in 30+ years of writing about games because I have always taken pains to make sure I do not earn a cent from any gaming. My biz is film/tv. I make shows. My industry is older, so we self regulate routinely, and culturally speaking... film/tv people NEVER talk about work online. Not at any social media. Not to our "friends." Its not done. Our work is worth money, and its industry standard to ask for payment in cash every week. They bring lock boxes to the set to hand cash to us. They assume we're all short timers all of the time... even if we're in unions (Mine would be IBEW if I ever had to join - I live in a non union state and self limit how many union gigs I take a year).

Its calming to me, btw, that you understand the words. I get frustrated when I know that like... only Raven would use the word "parthenogenesis" in conversation, and now absent Meadows, may his journey be a delight to him, is by simple virtue of having been victimized as a minority, and being young... he woulda been like "lol what?" and I woulda been misunderstoo

mainly you know what "risk management" is and then... it occurs to me another big difference with US and UK is that we have more scary stormtroopers, but we do not have "neds." The non educated delinquent is from 15 year olds kicked out, and the US doesnt do that. Ours go to age 18 in public school, no matter what, as funded by the National Defense Education Act of 1958 from LBJ. Any 18 yr old american is ready to go to boot camp*: thats what our public schools exist to do. The UK has a big chunk of 15 year olds who are turned loose to get work, and they are not ready to join an army at any age later, nor parse meaning from me... and thats very possibly a high percent of the jagex employees, more disproportionate here at the Community level where someone is supposed to have read this.

Thats why I had to mark it to the attention of somebody with a law degree. They will skim all the pages of this in moments and make a decision about which option is cheaper for them. I don't know if its cheaper to ignore me and not self-regulate. Its possible. Short term. I could be wrong.

If we're talking ten year plan though... I am not wrong. This industry will either choose to correct itself, or else be forced to do it like a jacobin reign of terror demanded video gaming be the scapegoat for a lot of other bad news concerns. I guess in England that'd be... ironsiders or new model army moreso than jacobins, but you get my drift. Populism. Populism is demanding a blood price right now, and its not going to be much longer before they've elected someone that makes good on his promise to deliver it (probably not Boris).

* and thats also why they turn and attack the school that taught them to be a soldier but didnt take them into the army.

proof about the troubles? I wish there had been judgments, but those investigations are usually suspended once MI5 gets a mole in. I can only cite starts and stops for investigations.

sometimes we get apologies instead of judgments?

Read up on your history, neither country has stormtroopers, at least not yet. You're referring to police or something similar, not paramilitary troops as the military wing of a political party. In the UK we call them terrorists, actual storm troops died out when Hitler invaded Poland and they were drafted into the Wehrmacht.

Neds are also a thing of the past, you've seen one too many films about the British working class. We have education until 18 now and have done for many years, my generation was the last to be able to leave at 16.

If you pay attention to the news, you'll have noticed that the UK armed forces are in a crisis, no one is joining so that point is also redundant.

I'm happy to engage in this conversation, but you jump so much that I'm really struggling to work out what you're saying sometimes. Everyone does what is cheaper, that's life. Just look at Grenfell Tower.

Ironsides, Jacobins? What are you quoting 17th/18th Century organisations for? They're parallels can hardly be equated.

Populism comes and goes, the whole "video games cause violence" routine is only run by nutcases like Trump. Anyone who know anything about anything (and I do) knows that is simply not the case. The only price I see is that MTX will be curbed, which is more than fine by me.

Johnson will never deliver on anything, he's too self-obsessed.

I'd be careful citing the Telegraph, the British press is in a bit of a state and its truth meter is a bit flawed. Not that I'm necessarily disagreeing with it, but I'd read around. Look at the BBC (I know, take it with a pinch), the Guardian (voted most trustful) and possibly the Times (quite politically neutral).

As for NIRA, they're not the IRA. They're a splinter 21st Century version similar to RIRA and markedly different to IRA. The Lyra McKee incident was a terrible shame, but accidental.

As for the RS stuff, I don't pay attention to the politics of the game. I don't really know what relevance it has to the rest of this.

Yeah I shoulda led with this citation. Its a SHOCK because it seemed like they would dismiss consideration of loot crates as gambling a few months back, and now they are not.

Oh believe me I am well used to hearing "jump around" from my thesis committee. I say "Tomisaburo Wakayama" and the soccer cheat loving tackle cowards roll eyes in their blatant sinophobia so getting them interested talking about snooze cinema of the bank loving elites... they can only keep up for so long and then I am "jumping around" if I say 'the japanese clint eastwood' which annoys me instead of just getting to say Tomisaburo Wakayama.

That doesnt mean you're wrong. It is hard to organize the material as my response, and leaves a lot to the filtering efforts of any risk management people that can have a look.

Yep. I knew telegraph owned by banks. I knew HBO was owned by Kingdom Holdings and Al Waleed Bin Talal, too, so I didnt know quite what to say to the rebels without clues who would share/tweet concern for starving yemeni children and then this weeks episode of GoT. I felt like I was embracing the complexity a little better.

To quote Matt Chorley of the Times "This. Is. Not. Normal". Nothing in UK gvt now is normal practise. Mayble they'll ban loot crates, who knows. It's not exactly at the top of their prioities right now and we don't even have a parliament atm.

You can't be sinophobic about a Japanese reference, not that that whole point made any sense to me.

That's just twitter though, and journalism is a job. They're not absolutists or fanatics, they have to discuss multiple things.

erm? oh. sinophobia is so bad that there is just the one word for all the asians that are not chinese. yeah its an outdated term, but it is the terminology that drove legislation like the "Chinese Exclusion Act" as well as the Executive Order 9066 that sent japanese americans to Manzanar. It took this long to get an asian onto SNL etc. Similarly I think the word you might want someday is "hibernophobia" and I love keeping alive the distinctions of hibernia and caledonia anyway. Fun weird fact "pedophobia" is a fear of dolls, and "misopedia" is hating children (like the ones chucked into tanks at tuam).

I meant our peers there for hypocrisy not media. I am supposed to be a bleeding heart progressive liberal antifascist, but all my so called peers have clicked "like" for bill maher and dont see any problem with his many bigotries.

I signed in to make sure I had said thanks for talking with me. I do appreciate the prompts to clarify a somewhat jumbled explosion of alarm. I dont think I am wrong, but I am going to take my discontent to pen and paper, and I will not stop until I have punished every single one of the price fixing cabal censoring me in other subforums. Now is when they need to stop, not when I need to stop.
