I think I understand why you're asking this, but defeating the purpose is kind of subjective. I have a feeling this mode won't be about self sufficiency, it seems more about creating dependencies as opposed to being independent.

Doesn't have any appeal to me, might be good for alt-scape style game play. Jagex haven't gone into much detail about it so we don't know how restrictive this mode will be. This all I could find about it...

Group Ironman

While being an Ironman is the ultimate challenge (beyond those crazy lvl 3 pures), it's a solitary life, never able to run those 5 man dungeons or join in with boss fights. Well now, you'll be able to! Make some brand-new accounts and get together with your iron mates, working as a team, able to interact fully with each other - trading, playing, fighting and socialising to your heart's content.

So that's all content we've got in development right now – updates you can expect to see in the next 6 months. No empty promises. This is real, actual content you'll be playing with very soon.

You still all start on a fresh account with no levels and no items and everything has to be gathered by your (very) small group. You will never get anything for free. Anyone claiming that is trying to scam, lure or hijack you.

Well I guess it's one of those wait and see developments. I guess if you had a close nit group of friends who all didn't mind starting afresh, then a new coop version of IM wouldn't be the end of the world. Personally I don't think I could redo some of the IM stuff again.

After comp and what not on here, im really looking forward to another ironman style i was rather hoping for official uim, not gonna bother with non official. Its all about finding the right group of people to do this with in my opinion. Hoping we will be able to pvm with people out side of the group would be very nice then you wouldn't have to strictly rely that all of your group mates are hench pvmers, assuming you want to do high end group bossing.
