RS3 is still where they make their money, so there's no real worry of it dying; if it was dying, it wouldn't be able to support both games AND the other MMO they are making.

Believe me these bot companies in India and China mass create accounts and its much easier for them to do so in osrs with a downgraded bot detection system. I remember they did a poll awhile back where they showed data that 70% of accounts were created in India.. lol
70%? Wow... O_o
A lot more than I expected lol..

It’s just so hard to believe when so much of the game is empty.

I get what you’re saying about the bot detection system but surely it can’t be making up for that much of the player base difference between the games, could it?

It does more than you would think just like back in the old days before maingame's bot nuke system.

The thing I can’t wrap my head around is, if the current combat system - EoC if you will, was the way of moving forward in the online gaming industry and meant to attract new players, why hasn’t that worked?

Memories are usually distorted sometimes to portray in your mind what you want to remember, but I don’t think I can ever remember the game being at such a low as far as current player base. Is this because of the EoC? Micro-Transactions? Who knows,

But it feels like this game is caught between a rock and a hard place. There’s no turning back to make things the way they where, just simply isn’t realistic.

Was making Old School servers the right way to go? And if not how is this game meant to be turned around? Or will it not be and eventually current players will fizzle out and there will be no one left. I know I find myself taking longer and more frequent breaks from this game than what I used too.

I remember when the EoC beta came out... a lot of my old friends said they couldn't be bothered to learn it, when they were so used to the way things were. Many friends went yolo staking their banks at the sand casino, etc.. That combined with a lot of bugs on release resorted to the way the game is today.

Micro-Transactions
This pretty much drove a lot of RS3 players to OSRS because they have been bringing out non-stop promotions for over a year now...

When I think of neckbeards stuck wishing they were 10 again, thus craving a dated version of the game (but then growing bored with it and demanding constant updates to it), I think "this is clearly catering to an idiotic audience." I also have to keep in mind that idiotic audiences are the majority of consumers.

There is/was an app that just sends "yo" to your friends. At the time, I thought their pitch would be something like this: Are you linguistically ineloquent? Awkward conversationalist? Want to hang out with your friends but don't know how to say "hey wanna hang out?" Then this app is for you!

Because what kind of idiots need an app for this when you could just text a person or use any of the 10000 full fledged apps for conversation? Regardless of what I or any other person that's not an idiot thinks, this app raised $1M. Catering to idiots is the proper way to be successful. Give it a few years when the man-children are more invested in their private server and Jagex will add mtx, but they'll then have all of the same reasons we have for not quitting and they will be milked as well.

So was OSRS a good choice? Definitely. Was it good for the health of their main game or moving forward? Who cares? Not Jagex.

i think as people have said, a combination of crybaby nostalgia, inability to perform anything more complex than click and wait, and a whole super crap load of bots is the reason OSRS has so many players

which is great imo, it means u dont get legacy fail hards trying to join raids or AoD teams, and the bot makers largely leave the real game alone :D

edit: about 70% of accounts made in india, dont forget, that not ALL botters will be from india, there is probably a good% from china (and Venezuela now from what i hear on the news), as well as players using bots themselves,m meaning probably about 90-95% of all OSRS accounts made are bots lol

i really wouldnt be surprised if some of the old school pk troll idiot RS community makes accounts that stand about doing nothing at all just so they can come on the forums and go "nah nah OSRS has more players coz EoC sucks *insert childish meme*"

As for the forums - they died because of social media lol. Due to the restrictions Jagex have on JMod accounts, it's far easier for them to log into Reddit or Twitter when not in the office, so most of them have moved to those platforms. :(

The forums are stale outdated trash. I thought I liked posting here religiously but then I realized how easy it was to leave the forums for 3 months. After many posts spamming w&f to rebirth the forums you just give up like many users probably do when they get bored and go to reddit.
